Gun Group Lauds Rep. Massie’s Effort To Repeal Gun-Free School Zone Act

BELLEVUE, WA – -(AmmoLand.com)- The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today lauded Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie for reintroducing legislation aimed at repealing the Gun-Free School Zones Act and replacing it with the far more sensible Safe Students Act.

“The Gun-Free School Zones Act was passed by Congress in 1990, and it’s been a disaster,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “It has not prevented a single tragic school shooting, but instead has given students, teachers, administrators, and parents a false sense of security that evaporates the moment some madman ignores the law and invades a school campus to commit mayhem.

“By declaring schools to be ‘gun-free,’ the law has simply turned schools into risk-free, target-rich environments for disturbed people willing to harm innocent children and teens,” he continued.

But Massie’s effort, which follows similar attempts in 2017 and 2018, is a common-sense approach to a serious problem. It would allow teachers to carry firearms for self-defense and the defense of students in emergencies. As the congressman noted in a news release, “Gun-free zones prevent law-abiding citizens from protecting themselves, and create vulnerable populations that are targeted by criminals.”

Joining Massie as sponsors of H.R. 3200 are Republican Congressmen Justin Amash (MI), Jody Hice (GA), Jeff Duncan (SC), Matt Gaetz (FL), Louie Gohmert and Brian Babin (TX) and fellow Kentuckian James Comer.

“History has tragically demonstrated that the Gun-Free School Zones Act, which was sponsored by then-Senator Joe Biden, has failed miserably to accomplish its purpose,” Gottlieb stated. “It was a stupid idea then, and it has become a dangerous policy today. The law’s supporters are simply too vain and stubborn to admit they were wrong.

“The time has come to trash this ineffective mandate and make the nation’s schools safe again by allowing teachers and administrators the means to fight back in an emergency,” Gottlieb concluded.

It is obvious that some are using innocent school children to promote their anti-gun agenda. They resist any move to protect schools by training and placing qualified employees as armed protectors. Perhaps they “hope” for the next school shooting and exploit dead children they way they did post-Parkland. Our kids should not be sacrificed at the altars of liberal extremists. They should be protected from harm. Elected officials at all levels who fail to protect children should be held complicit for crimes that occur on school property.

concealed carry is my answer. if they don’t have metal detectors or strip search you upon entry I carry even if it violates their policy. as long as I am not violating state or federal law they can only ask me to leave. if you can’t see it, I don’t have it.
have there been any school shootings where staff are allowed to carry firearms?

tomcat

You think it might be time to do away with these. The criminal sees this as shooting fish in a barrel and last year in Florida the sheriff dept stood outside and listened to the shots and screams. Even a democrat should be able to see that enough is enough.

Deplorable Bill

Joe Biden came up with gun free zones? That along with all the other senseless rules and words from his mouth make me understand why Osama Bin Ladin called him a buffoon. If a low life, goat screwing, woman and kid murdering evil person can see it from half way around the globe, it should be plain enough for normal people. Make our children targets of opportunity, fire a warning shot with your shotgun up through your ceiling, punish the bad guy by disarming the innocent? If Biden really did come up with gun free zones then he has as… Read more »

One of the 20,000 most ridiculous gun laws that has needed deep sixing for decades! Don’t expect much from this DemonRAT run Congress;( My credo is to be armed ANYWHERE, and EVERYWHERE I am not ‘strip searched’ or run through some metal detector! If those are in place, I just avoid them like the plague, or, if FORCED to enter, GET OUT ASAP! Two bills that shudda already been made into LAW are, the CCW Reciprocity Bill and The SHUSH Act. Both are COMMON SENSE solutions, so again, NOT expecting to see any COMMON SENSE out of these contemptible “representatives!”… Read more »

IMOA these don’t know it all clowns put up signs that read “DRUG FREE ZONE’ guess what, drugs can be found on premises proves the sign is useless. Signs that read “TOBACCO FREE ZONES or SMOKE FREE ZONES” guess what, people still use tobacco proving the sign is useless. It’s the same with “GUN FREE ZONES” the sign is useless and IMOA encourages POS shooters to commit murder because they know no one can respond and stop them for a very long time.

Anyone who supports the insane gun free zone policies at any location (schools, public buildings, malls, etc.) Is a complete fraud. They have absolutely NO argument that these policies have been even slightly effective in any way. ZERO ARGUMENT!!! Many children have died as a result, yet we continue to see these policies in place everywhere. WTF!!! Challenge anyone who supports it. Ask for proof that it’s working. They will look like fools because there is no proof and they know there never will be.

I agree with the OP. The bill needs to be amended to also include Colleges, Universities, etc. That would also be a major boost to see the Soc/Lib professors find a new home. The conservative/socialist ratio right now is 35/65 +/-. From the time a child enters kindergarten all the way through HS graduation, and if they continue their higher education, the socialist/liberal dogma is hammered into their heads. It takes a strong family to educate their children to ignore the indoctrination and support the American Democratic Republic as set forth by the Continental Congress. I would opine that 95… Read more »

Such a measure would cripple the efforts of progressive liberalism to repeal the Second Amendment, and likely cause a stampede of “pubik skuul eddykaters” into other professions to avoid being in the presence of EEEEeeevil guns.
