Florida “Assault Weapons” Ban Amendment Targets All Semiautomatic Rifles & Shotguns

Official Communication by Marion P. Hammer

NRA Past President

The Ruger 10/22 is at home on virtually any range, and even now, ammo is (relatively) inexpensive.
The Ruger 10/22 rifle. Florida “Assault Weapons” Ban Amendment Targets All Semiautomatic Rifles & Shotguns

Florida – -(AmmoLand.com)- The so-called Florida “assault weapons” ban that is proposed for a constitutional amendment to be on the 2020 Election Ballot bans the possession of:

“any semiautomatic rifle or shotgun CAPABLE of holding more than ten (10) rounds of ammunition at once, either in a fixed or detachable magazine or other ammunition feeding device.”

The fact is, any rifle or shotgun that is “capable” of accepting or using, a detachable magazine that holds 10 rounds or less is also “capable” of accepting a magazine or magazine extension of any size. Magazines with a capacity of 3 all the way up to 100 rounds are in common use throughout the United States.

Therefore, ALL semiautomatic rifles and shotguns “capable” of using a detachable magazine or fixed magazine would be banned. UNLESS YOU REGISTER THEM WITH THE GOVERNMENT within a year — so the government knows who has guns and how many.

Otherwise you can be arrested, charged and prosecuted for felony possession of so-called “assault weapons” and your guns confiscated.

That means all Ruger 10-22 semiautomatic rifles, all Remington Model 1100 shotguns, all Benelli shotguns, all semiautomatic hunting rifles, all semiautomatic plinking and target rifles — you get the picture. If it is semiautomatic, kiss it goodbye.

Firearms that you legally purchased, legally owned, legally used, and legally possessed for years could suddenly be banned and you could end up in prison for merely continuing to possess your own property if you fail to register with the government. History shows that when the government knows who has guns and where they are, they can come and confiscate them.

Remember, once convicted of felony possession of a so-called “assault weapon,” then YOU LOSE ALL OF YOUR GUNS because felons can’t possess ANY GUNS, Period.

Further, manufacture and sale is also banned since there is no exemption whatever for possession due to manufacturing, distribution or sale.

Simply put, over 150 manufacturers may be forced to shut down and move out of Florida if they manufacture semiautomatic rifles or shotguns. Goodbye jobs, goodbye Pittman-Robertson money for youth gun safety programs, goodbye retail gun shops, HELLO, major damage to the job market and Florida's economy.

A recent Gallop poll shows that over 40% of households ADMIT to owning at least one gun. That number is probably much higher since we don't like telling pollsters what we own. In Florida with a population of over 22 million, that means 9-10 million Florida households could lose their home defense firearms if they are semiautomatic rifles or shotguns.

At an August 16th 2019 hearing, sponsoer and supporters of the “Assault Weapons” Amendment said the following:

“We don’t think it bans Ruger 10-22 rifles, they’re just .22s.” — BUT IT DOES !!!!!

“My Benelli shotgun is beautiful and shouldn't be banned. — BUT IT WILL BE !!!!!

“We don’t want to shut down your shooting range and gun shop.” — BUT IT WILL !!!!!

Welcome to reality. What they think or what they say they want doesn’t matter.

ONLY the words matter and the proposed amendment will ban Ruger 10-22s, Benelli Shotguns, Remington Model 1100 shotguns and all semiautomatic rifles and shotguns with detachable or fixed magazine.

What matters is what the language says and does. And past experience has shown us that the government will enforce it as badly as they possibly can.

BOTTOMLINE: The sponsors and supporters either don’t know what the heck they are doing or they are lying.

AND your Second Amendment rights are in danger. PERIOD.

Shame about that boating accident, I seem to have lost all of mine.

In Washington State they duped people into voting for a similar “Assault Weapon Ban”. My 10/22 became an “Assault Weapon” overnight.

Florida gun owners – you MUST become active NOW! Bluster about “Shall not be infringed” or guns lost boating is NOT an effective move.

Get out, talk to your neighbors, ORGANIZE and fight back while we still can.

What is an “assault weapon”? Anything they want it to be. Therein lies the problem: after the law is in place, the definition will be changed to include ALL arms, not just firearms (although, ALL of them will be in there). The gun owners who support these intolerable acts, thinking “they won’t come for my (shotgun, rifle, revolver, muzzleloader)” are FUDDs, living in dream world. The 2nd Amendment either applies to all arms, or it applies to none. We either fight for all Americans’ rights or we will have them stripped from us, as has always happened throughout history. The… Read more »

@Rac, Yes, and they have the audacity to claim they have an interest in public safety, but deny they have a duty to send a cop when you call for help.
It is all about who will be the masters, and who will be the slaves.

These people cannot be trusted. They know they are lying, they just don’t care. There are plenty of dupes who believe everything they say and repeat it, but the underlying memes are still based upon lies.

Compromise is not possible with people who are adverse to facts, truth and reason. They deal in lies and don’t care because they believe their “truth” trumps facts. Anything is acceptable to reach their goal.

HEY! Rural Missouri is a firearms friendly environment and dedicated work force who would be grateful to have those jobs.
Please keep us in mind, you won’t regret it.

There are no politicians, no legal laws and no adjustments to the 2nd Amendment. By law, the 2nd Amendment cannot be infringed upon. The only way they can change the law (Illegally mind you) is when the people give up their right voluntarily. It is about time legal gun owners take to the streets of Washington and let them know we will never give up our 2nd Amendment rights, then demand that any representative that infringes on our 2nd Amendment be put in prison as a traitor to America. A handful of criminal politicians don’t run this country, the people… Read more »

Join the discussion…The last quote by Roger Sherman is where half of the morons in America are politically right now. It is close to the end of rights under the 2nd AD. I see nothing good from this point forward. “A small step for man, a giant leap for gun confiscation” is the current climate.

My .02 as an Army veteran. This effects far more than just Florida. Every single democrat running for office is running under an “Assault weapon” ban and a magazine limit for whatever guns are left(I guess muskets and bolt actions). The three leading the polls are Biden, Sanders, and Warren. All are super anti gun and are going to executive order and assault weapon ban killing the gun industry and anyone else shoots as a hobby or uses semi-automatic gun for protection. People with these confiscation fantasies need to understand something. And I there needs to be more talk about… Read more »

@ AdamL2 that is a real dooms day rant you just presented. You might be right but I think I will get up tomorrow morning thinking that we have freedoms and Constitutional language that gives rights. Taking all of our guns is a monumental task that is not as possible as you describe. The democrat want to be’s will say anything they think will give them another point but they are dropping like flies. Besides, they can do very little without the vote of congress to change laws.

I think it will be over like a two year period. My guess is Sanders, Warren or Biden wins the 2020 election. If not 2024, but lets say Trump loses in 2020 to one of those three. By Nov 8th 2020 they implement the assault ban by executive order. This is exactly what they did in 1994. They don’t need a vote of congress. But even if they did, they have a good chance to flip the senate blue. Not to mention the extremely liberal population. First they’ll start with red flag laws and an “assault” ban which includes all… Read more »
