Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell Is So WRONG About State Firearms Preemption

BELLEVUE, WA – -(Ammoland.com)- Anti-gun Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell wasted no time in attempting to create a myth early in his tenure when he told reporters Washington is “one of the few states” with a firearms preemption law, and he needs to come clean immediately, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

At his presser, Harrell—a longtime opponent of state preemption, which guarantees uniformity of firearms law from border to border—declared, “You will hear this year me lead efforts on trying to get relief from the exemption RCW 9.41.290. You’ll hear me talking about that. I don’t know how many lives have to be lost before we realize we’re one of the few states that has that kind of restriction allowing the state to govern the laws we need for our city of Seattle.”

“Bruce Harrell needs to reload his brain before shooting his mouth off,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “Forty-two states have preemption laws, and that is hardly ‘a few’ states, as Harrell would have the public believe. Washington was among the first to adopt this law in 1983, and its statute has been used as a model by other states when they adopted similar statutes because they all saw the common sense of gun law uniformity.

“Harrell and other anti-gunners would have us roll back the calendar to a time when a literal state of confusion existed in Washington,” he continued. “Before preemption was wisely adopted by the State Legislature, we had a checkerboard of often conflicting local gun regulations. State lawmakers properly took control of this mess and cleaned it up with a single set of regulations that apply equally from the Canada border to the Columbia River.

“This is why gun owners don’t trust low-caliber politicians,” Gottlieb observed. “They don’t shoot straight. Washington has led the nation in so many ways, and that certainly applies to gun law responsibility. Our state provided the road map for the majority of other states to bring not only uniformity but integrity to gun laws, and Harrell wants to bring back what amounts to chaos.

“Mayor Harrell tried to invent a myth, and we’re shocked that nobody in the local media challenged him on this,” Gottlieb said. “It is not difficult to find the truth about preemption and how widespread this reasonable, rational approach has become. The question reporters should now be asking is if the mayor was so wrong about preemption, what else is he wrong about?”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (www.ccrkba.org) is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States.

I’m not sure what happened to my first post here, it said it was being “approved”. WTF is all that about? I used no swear words or advocated violence. Crazy, I thought Ammoland supported the 1st amendment? N

Aw, relax. Sometimes it takes a while for someone to have a squiz at your words. Not sure what triggers a hold. I see many tings that should have been dumped, and sometimes I get a hold and have no clue why. They’ll get round to it.

Bigfootbob

You were right. I’m a newbie here and my previous post were never tagged for approval.

Mine seem to get held more often if I include a link.

seattle goes from one lying tyrant to another lying tryant as mayor. either they are stupid or immoral.
they cannot be called stupid; they are at the top of their political party. they are consumed with the lust of power to rule over others’ lives but don’t care about the consequences of their actions, that is immoral. and they want to force others to conform to their wishes, that is tyrannical.
science, data and facts have no relevance to them.

it is not the votes cast by citizens that bring such trash into office. It is the corruptocrats who COUNT tose votes. Beenhappening for many decades.

Stalin said it correctly:

“It does not matter who votes. What matters is who counts the votes.”

The Republic is dead.

Democrats have never been very good at hard numbers. Just remember “Sleepy” Joe’s prediction that the BBB would not cost taxpayers a dime. Besides, expecting correct answers on a math question is racist.

I am fleeing Washington state because of dumb ness like this

swmft

sad to see it happening, look at canada think the truckers would be abused if they were armed?

Grim

Stick around and help prevent the “dumb ness”.

THAT is EXACTLY WHY so many anti-liberty states and municipalities are falling to the looney left agendas and falling into despair. THAT is WHY our borders are being overrun by third world criminals, drugs and slugs further threatening our nation and our citizens. Rather than grow a pair, stand and fight, RUN! RUN you scared little bitch!

Neanderthal75

Well my dear punk, why don’t you belly up to the bar, pull your head out of your ass, and understand the demographics in Washington State? You know, look at things logically, empirically, factually, rather than your usual head up your ass emotionalism? Washington is lost: there are about 3-5 million people in the I-5 Corridor; what means numerically, is that a massive amount of Californians fled North to escape the illegal alien Haven, the leftist environment that allowed for used needles and human feces to be found all over sidewalks, along with all the snatch and grab crime. Sadly,… Read more »

I lived and worked in Everett back in the early to mid-eighties, (Do your search) Building Boeing 747’s after I left the Marines. I know the territory and the politics well. I was also an FFL and held permits by the Washington State DPS for purchasing and using Class A Explosives, took over property management of and refurbished decades old transient lodging and bum bar that the city “leaders” wanted to “do away with the drunks and transients”. These “civic minded leaders” were more impressed with themselves and their fancy made-up titles than they were with their “cause”. They wanted… Read more »

Last year, Colorado’s DemocRAT controlled legislature passed a law doing away with a preemption law that protected gun owners. And, as expected, anti-2nd Amendment Governor “Twinkie-Dink” Polis was all too happy to sign it. Then, Denver, which is run by anti-2nd Amendment DemocRATs and an anti-gun Mayor, passed a law against “Ghost Guns” or any firearm without a serial number. So now, if you have one of these evil firearms, simply driving up I-25 through Denver, on the way to somewhere else, you can be arrested and your un-serial numbered firearm can be seized. This leaves the door wide open… Read more »

I live a few miles north of Colorado and it is now off my travel list!

I refuse to endanger myself, my family, or my friends, by traveling through the Democratic People’s Republic of Colorado.

I will not spend any money in Colorado, I will not go to any events in colorado, I will not support Colorado in any way, shape, or form. Tyranny must be confronted within the means one has: these are the means I currently have.

USMC0351Grunt

No money to travel to and spend in Colorado?

Finnky

We used to routinely go there for skiing. A week at one of the resorts with lessons for the kids and tickets for everyone is a fair amount of money for a family of six. Colorado won’t be getting our money anymore and hopefully others will join us in shunning Colorado. Unfortunately price of ski lift tickets has at least doubled since last time we went. Obviously they are not hurting for customers willing to dump a ton of cash. They will continue to cater to the elite who can easily cough up tens to hundreds of times as much… Read more »

When you use FOPA as a defense, you are still out your time and legal costs – but can you force return of your seized firearms?

On a separate note SCOTUS recently ruled on a case involving malicious prosecution. If Denver charges a few innocent travelers, a class action suit would be appropriate. If I understood the ruling correctly, individual LEO and DA/ADAs lose qualified immunity and can be held to account for baseless persecution. Would be educational to have a few of Denver’s “finest” reduced to bankruptcy for their misdeeds.

None

This is all Seattle can get for mayors in the last 40 years ultra liberial gun haters and crazy’s, gays or other undesirables then they move up and become Govenor this state is done, these clowns would love to keep it the communist utopia of their dreams, you can’t get a honest election on the west side of the mountians.

Harrell has a double digit IQ. He’s a former University of Washington football player, a marginal one at that, who parlayed his position into a Stepin Fetchit for the thieving Seattle leaders at the time. He ran for a seat on the city council where he hid for years. Trust me, Seattle gets what they deserve. Problem with that is, just like other City States, as Seattle does so tries the rest of the state. We sane people spend far too much energy trying to beat back the insanity that oozes out of the Pugetopolis. Sad part of this story,… Read more »

I left Washington 15 years ago. I rarely go back, and I am only 58 miles from the border. The gun laws have become some of the worst in the nation. ALL semi-automatic rifles from .22 rim fire and up are assault weapon. New waiting periods and universal background checks for private sales. I have a friend with a 300 gun collection that is getting ready to sell them. It is a major hassle and expense to use a dealer every time.

Can you send me his contact information? I’m not able to move until my spouse passes, all of our kids are here, even the ingrate ones, she won’t leave. We are still an open carry state, almost 1,000,000 ccw’s in a state of 7 mil, and we haven’t yet become Kalifornia with wimpy mag laws and I just bought 2 cans for my various AR platforms. Until they pry the weapons out of my cold dead hands, or the spouse passes and I can move to a free state, I’m gonna fight these Marxists until they’re all gone or reduced… Read more »

The biggest problem with Socialism & it’s idiots, falsehoods, dis/mis information dolts is that you have to Shoot your way out of it once it takes hold.

Socialism is by voting (even in a proven to be rigged system) communism is by force.

Had Locke’s statements or whatever close to whatever statements he or any other person MAY have quoted or have stated over the past 246+ years ago, (Locke’s being over 330 years ago) were so important, then they would ALL be quotes in Heller and all other such cases by the SCOTUS. Now, had this been a quote from The Bible I would be more apt to get behind it. And if these 2 plus decade old statements are ALL that We as a nation have to rely on then we lost not the battle, but the war well over 150… Read more »

Locke and others gave our Founders (you remember them) the words of reason used to create this country. Our concepts of liberty are based on those that came earlier.
