NY Anti-Gun Attorney General Files Lawsuit Against Gun Accessory Manufacturer

U.S.A. – New York Attorney General Letitia James has taken legal action against Mean Arms, a Georgia-based gun accessory manufacturer, for their alleged involvement in the illegal possession of assault weapons in New York. The lawsuit follows the tragic incident in Buffalo, where a shooter used Mean Arms’ magazine lock, known as the MA Lock, to replace magazines in his AR-15 and carried out a mass shooting that claimed the lives of 10 individuals.

According to the lawsuit, Mean Arms deceptively promotes the MA Lock as a device that makes weapons compliant with New York’s gun laws. However, it is alleged that the lock can be effortlessly removed, allowing the shooter to add 30-round detachable magazines to the firearm used in the massacre. The Attorney General argues that Mean Arms’ marketing practices and instructions on how to remove the lock contribute to the illegal possession of assault weapons in the state.

Attorney General James danced in the blood of the Buffalo shooting, calling it “one of the darkest days in the history of New York and the nation.” While dramatically claiming that the harm caused cannot be undone, and she aims to seek “justice” for the lives lost by the acts of a madman by now pursuing legal action against Mean Arms.

The NY lawsuit seeks several “remedies”, including a halt to Mean Arms’ operations in New York, restitution, damages, and civil penalties for the company’s alleged violations of state laws. Moreover, the Attorney General intends to force Mean Arms to issue corrective statements regarding the misleading claims made about the MA Lock.

Mean Arms’ MA Lock is designed to lock a detachable magazine in place on a semiautomatic rifle using a shear bolt mechanism. However, the New York Attorney General’s office found that the company provides instructions on how to easily remove the lock on the packaging itself. Online videos also demonstrate the removal process, which involves using a #2 speed out drill bit and a power drill.

The lawsuit reveals that the Buffalo shooter had purchased a semiautomatic rifle with the MA Lock installed and a 10-round magazine in January 2022. Using the common tools and a power drill, he removed the lock, enabling him to attach multiple illegal, under New York law, 30-round detachable magazines. This modification allowed the shooter to continue firing 30 rounds without reloading, as would be the case with the NY arbitrary number of 10 rounds, and according to the AG, that somehow contributed to the increased “lethality” of the attack.

Attorney General James’ legal bullying of Mean Arms is part of her ongoing efforts to claim she is doing something to curb “gun violence” and to force “responsible gun safety laws” on New York. In recent months, her office has wasted taxpayer monies on a statewide gun buyback program and cracked down on online ammunition sellers for “illegal” shipping.

While the lawsuit claims to hold Mean Arms accountable, it is worth noting that laws like New York’s, banning so-called high-capacity magazines have faced legal challenges. Various federal courts, including the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, have ruled such bans to be unconstitutional, citing the Second Amendment right to bear arms.

The lawsuit against Mean Arms, however, underscores the Attorney General’s commitment to doing the dirty work of gun banners. The legal action has garnered support from advocacy groups like Everytown for Gun Safety, as well as local leaders, including U.S. Representative Brian Higgins and Buffalo Mayor Byron W. Brown.

How absurd. The infringement on rights is bad enough, but holding the wrong party responsible is just ridiculous. The Buffalo shooter clearly broke even more laws, modifying the firearm was least among them, so let’s punish a third party that aids in compliance with the infringement?

Henry Bowman

Holding the wrong party responsible is all part of the plan of the tyrants & JBT’s. You say ridiculous, they say ‘marvelous!’ They know damn well that every new infringement is an attack on YOUR liberty and will do NOTHING to stop the next MK-Ultra wind-up killbot! The deliberate ineffectiveness is the goal, justifying an endless vicious loop until you have NO RIGHTS LEFT; and THEN that’s when the REAL fun (terror) begins!

Arny

I do believe you’re onto something. Give me a tinfoil hat. Because their choice of targets (victims) is quite questionable. Defenseless children. And everyday serfs that had nothing to do with their strife in life. It just boggles my mind, how anyone could inflict this kind of pain on little children. I went on a senior cruise to Bermuda. On this cruise, we had entertainment. One night happened to be a hypnotist. I went to a private Catholic school. These students they hypnotized were straight A & B students. They were the top of the class students. I would not… Read more »

A huge number of people are under the influence of psychotropic medications. Do you think that might have something to do with the huge number of seemingly insane things we see displayed on the national nightly news programs?

Bubba

Look up MK Ultra program.
This is what the goal was. It’s still being used. People are easily influenced already. Now add a psychological disorder to the mix and you have school ok shooters with a little prodding.
It’s disgusting.
2A has nothing to do with these lunatics being pushed into these violent acts.

warfinge

It’s weighting the finances of gun and gun accessory businesses with lawsuits to swamp their budgets with legal fees and put the out of business. Not enough people will stand up to this. They just won’t have the funds. They will cave and close the doors. Justice is being abused.

Coelacanth

Death of a thousand cuts.

Bubba

At some point Congress has to pass a law and amend it to the constitution that holds frivolous violations to have criminal and financial penalties.

DDS

Congress can’t just pass the law. They need it to pass both houses with a 2/3 supermajority.

The Dims don’t currently have that in either house.

Then it has to be ratified by 3/4 of the states. Most of the state legislatures are controlled by the GOP. Most of the governors are GOP as well. So their chances there look pretty slim.

We’re more likely to see the Dims take a Hochul route, i.e. pretend the Second doesn’t exist and defy SCOTUS to do anything about it.

When does this BS stop???
They should all be made to wear red coats!!

Henry Bowman

It stops when we stop allowing it.

Rich DD — You know when it stops.

When the same ‘logic’ is applied to automobile manufacturers, maybe then we can stop ‘drive-by’ shootings, auto thefts, and carjackings.

New York should be held accountable for disarming their citizens and then for not protecting them when they are assaulted, robbed, raped and murdered..Insanity works both ways..

Boom

Wolfgar — except, that wouldn’t be insanity…. That would be an actual, legitimate, breach of promise suit…. The New York state government has failed in their number one function of role, to protect it’s Citizens

They don’t go by the law so why should we , i’m sick of this one way street we’re going down .time for talk is over we need to use other means to get them to go in the right direction. It has to start somewhere and why not New York they seem to voliate their oath on a regular bases

The authorities should worry about crime, not lawful commerce.

And the moral of the story is this: if you live or do business in a progressive utopia like NY, NJ, CA et al get out. By staying you put a price on your liberty. Move to a state and jurisdiction not opposed to your natural rights.

J.galt

Yeah, glock, s&w, staccato……stop supplying the police state(s) with the tools to screw the citizens

AG James may as well go after the manufacturers of the tools that POS used for all the good it will do. Even without instructions, anyone with a little bit of mechanical aptitude can figure out how to delete compliance features.
This is what the gun grabbers get why they foist vague, poorly written BS laws on their subjects.

Logician

What everybody should be doing, is exposing the crimes of the legal system, because it is the 100% corrupted legal system that is enforcing these insane edicts that come from OTHER criminals!! Demand to see where it is written down, that we are guaranteed to actually GET a fair trial in any court room in America! Since the legal system is made up of and run by criminals, it is impossible for anyone to get a fair trial and justice there!! Without that guarantee in front of us, no trial is anything more than either a gamble, or a scam… Read more »

Stupid Lawsuit. Of course, it can be removed, because it’s an Aftermarket Compliance Device intended for use by LAW ABIDING Gun Owners, who WANT to stay in compliance with Onerous, Burdensome and Unconstitutional State Laws.
Letitia James is Cupid Stunt.

Because the Buffalo Shooter was First and Foremost a Criminal you Bupid Stitch.
He Illegally removed a Compliance Device.

james

By AG logic, if I bring an illegal knife into NY state then the manufacturer is to blame?

james

NY AG has unlimited funds for frivolous lawsuits.

MP71

Definitely not holding my breath waiting for that to happen. Plaintiffs in the cases challenging this BS should start asking for their legal costs to be reimbursed. The government is violating rights under the color of the law. It only takes one sympathetic judge to set a precedent.
The Kommiefornia legislature passed a bill that would force plaintiffs to reimburse the state for its legal costs in 2A cases unless every claim in the suit was ruled in favor of the plaintiff. Of course it was immediately challenged and I don’t know what the current status is.

Oldman

You know what plumbers say, 44M? Shit runs downhill and we got all that here in Washingtanastan. Coming to you not long from now. Sorry…..

Installation and removal is not a crime.

MP71

You never know when that “non compliant” weapon is going to find its way out of your safe and go on a killing spree.

That’s the absurdity of these so called AWB’s. They know they can’t just outlaw them outright. They create a bunch of convoluted definitions and vague rules that give us plenty of latitude to create solutions that are within the letter of the law.

I would like to see these shooters choose better targets. And put their just anger where it belongs. lol

The sum of the parts is equal to the whole. 10, 20,30, 60 rd magazines make no difference when you can drop the empty mag with a round in the chamber and slap a full mag in a few seconds.
Boone County Sheriff has demonstrated this with three different people on youtube.

Hey gsorry LaQUISHA D.A., SHOW me the INTENT of the “MA LOCK” manufacturer, where they demonstrated the willingness for buyers to become TERRORISTS!

The other issue the embedded video points out is how easy, far easier than removal of the MA device, it is to remove the “bullet button”. She should be suing them for easy removal of that device.

Chuck

I think she should be in Concrete Galoshes, under a couple hundred feet of the Atlantic.
