How to Install the PSA Hex Rail: A Step-by-Step VIDEO Guide

Step 1: Prepare Your Upper Receiver

Start by removing the old rail from your AR15 rifle, leaving just the barrel exposed. Ensure your workspace is clean and you have all the necessary tools ready.

Step 2: Install the Barrel Nut

1. Apply Grease: Use a small brush to apply a bit of barrel nut grease. Spread it evenly with your finger.
2. Slide the Barrel Nut: Slide the barrel nut over the barrel and hand-tighten it.
3. Torque the Barrel Nut: Using a wrench, like the Wheeler Engineering Delta Series AR Torque Wrench, tighten the barrel nut to about 50 foot-pounds. The mil-spec range is between 30 and 80 foot-pounds, but 50 is a reliable midpoint.

Step 3: Install the Gas Tube and Gas Block

1. Slide Them On: Align the gas tube and gas block over the barrel.
2. Tighten the Screws: Use a 3/32 screw to tighten them to 30 inch-pounds. Tighten both screws gradually, alternating between them to ensure even pressure.

Step 4: Install the Hex Rail

1. Slide the Rail: Carefully slide the rail over the barrel, gas tube, and barrel nut. If it’s too tight, use the smaller set screw to slightly spread the handguard.
2. Secure the Rail: Ensure the anti-rotational tabs on the rail align with the upper receiver.

Step 5: Install Handguard Screws

1. Insert Screws: Use a 9/64 bit to start the screws by hand.
2. Snug Them Up: Tighten the middle screw first, then the side screws. Follow the pattern similar to tightening lug nuts on a car to ensure even pressure.
3. Torque the Screws: Set your torque wrench to 40 inch-pounds and tighten each screw.

Step 6: Install Set Screws

1. Start with the Long Screw: If you haven’t used the smaller screw to spread the handguard, start with the long screw. Tighten it to 10 inch-pounds.
2. Install the Short Screw: Flip the upper around and insert the shorter screw into the offset hole. Now with your Wheeler Torque Wrench tighten it to 10 inch-pounds as well.
3. Double Check: Ensure both screws are secure by rechecking them.

Step 7: Reinstall the Muzzle Device

1. Attach the Device: Screw the muzzle device back on by hand.
2. Secure it: Use a muzzle device tool to snug it up, ensuring it’s properly aligned.
