Wisconsin –-(Ammoland.com)-  Thirty years ago this month, I was finishing up the Army Infantry Officer Basic Course at Ft. Benning, GA.

It was 1982 and the US Army had this Air Force officer convinced that we would be at war with the Soviet Union by 1986.

After Infantry school I spent a year at Osan Air Base in South Korea, expecting the North Koreans to come south any day while I was there. The winter of 1985 I was at Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany engaged in a major air base operability exercise.

My big Air Force was trying to prove to us, that we could not only take a dramatic hit from the Soviets, but keep the flight-line open and continue to generate aircraft sorties directed at the Godless communist hoards.

The original 1984 version of the movie Red Dawn was playing on base. I had already seen it back State-side in a civilian theater, but there is nothing like watching a war movie in a packed theater full of Soldiers and Airmen. We were all there in Germany training to potentially go into combat with the communist menus and here on the big screen were a bunch of American kids fighting the Godless aggressors in our own backyard.

The GI crowd in that military movie house loved those high school age children as they planned and executed one after another successful attack on the communists.

If you have never seen the original version of Red Dawn it is about the attack on US soil by Spanish speaking, central American, communist countries, backed by the Soviet Union. They invade and then brutally occupy parts of the US. A group of teenage Americans fight an insurgent war against the communists.

The 2012 remake of the movie Red Dawn has been released and we are still fighting the communists. This time it is the North Koreans, helped by the Russians as they invade the Pacific Northwest states. Are you beginning to see a pattern here involving the communist Russians? Just as in the 1984 versions, in the 2012 version of Red Dawn an untrained group of teenagers take on the communist invader / occupiers. In the beginning they have a very limited supply of firearms, mostly hunting rifles and shotguns. They have to engage and defeat the North Korean commies a couple times in order to steal their combat weapons. There by properly outfitting themselves with the latest front line armament.

I recently saw some information about the correlation of the number of hunting licenses sold in just four US states for the 2011 deer season. In Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and West Virginia there were over 2.3 million deer tags sold. If you assume there is a rifle in the hands of each person who bought a 2011 deer tag this would constitute the largest standing army in the world.

And we still have 46 other States that have annual deer seasons. So I am sitting in the theater watching the new Red Dawn movie thinking there is something not quite right about this picture. The whole city of Spokane, Washington is standing around doing nothing as the North Korean commie troops are dropping from the skies and rounding up all the good citizens like they are sheep waiting in the queue to be marched off to the slaughter house.

I told the Colonel it was a little hard for me to really envision invaders attacking the US, but in the same breath I stated there where probably lots of immigrants residing in this country who remember living in occupied Europe in 1939-1945. Maybe they could foresee that an aggressive power might believe it could attack and control the US.

We have 50 States with 10s-of-millions of legally armed hunters and sport shooters. Sadly, the average home in the US that possesses a firearm has less than one full 50 round box of ammunition for that firearm.

You cannot defend your country from Godless Communist Aggression (I learned that phrase as a young lieutenant) or from Zombies in your front yard with half a box of ammo and a rusty deer rifle you forgot to clean after last years hunting season.

The liberal left does not like our Second Amendment Right and they really do not like black-rifles (what they call assault rifles). Prepare for yet another attack on gun ownership.

I would suggest it is time to update your wish list and ask for what every freedom loving, anti-Godless communist American, really wants this year under their Christmas tree–ammunition.

Be prepared America—wolverines!!!

Glad to hear about this Major from Iowa. We are very conservitive in Iowa with our values. The Movie Red Dawn paints a really life like situation we Americans sometimes avoid. Our freedoms are on the line everyday in this country, when we as legal citizens look the other way at confrontation from an enemy. When was the last time you stood your ground and didn't worry about offending someone's who was doing illegal things? If your that type of person who just want to be left out of the loop with your rights as an American citizen, you should take… Read more »

I loved the timing of the move also just before the election. But I see it as something we all should be aware of. I'm not sure if it will be a attack from another country or Our own Government trying to take over putting us under a dictator rule and doing away with the Country many of US have fought for and the Freedoms we have.

Wolverines!!! Great movie! Surreal to the core as in MARINE CORPS. The liberal media hate's it and say it's ludacris. Well history sure is ludacris and so is War! Thats the first movie in a long time iv'e seen that was so real. They weren't fighting big bugs or aliens from space this time but a real invasion force of the much more fearful and worse, Humans!
