USA – -(Ammoland.com)- Authors Andy Lightbody and Kathy Mattoon of Rocky Mountain Television/Productions won several awards in the annual photography and writing contest held recently by Rocky Mountain Outdoor Writers and Photographers.

Lightbody and Mattoon won third place for their book “Winter Trails: Colorado ( tiny.cc/awcadx ).” Book judge Russ Bromby, former editor of Colorado Outdoors magazine, wrote;

“This entry in the ‘Falcon Guides Where to Ski Series’ takes us to the best cross-country ski and snowshoe trails. The book covers 51 trails in the state and contains details on distance, terrain, difficulty, elevation and time necessary for each trail. Other useful information describes fees, and permits where and where necessary, directions and all GPS coordinates. The section on equipment and survival gear is essential.”

Mattoon also won third-place honors in the newspaper and magazine writing category for her article “Big Game Meat: Don’t Grind It, Jerk It,” which was published in the Gunnison Country Times Hunting Guide in September 2013 .

Of that article, newspaper and magazine writing judge Mary Taylor Young, a nature writer who has published numerous books and articles, said, “Informative and persuasive how-to that tells readers why and how to make their own jerky.”

There were more than 460 entries in the contest, and awards were presented at the organization’s annual conference, which this year took place in West Glacier, Mont., just outside the western entrance to Glacier National Park. Formed in 1973, Rocky Mountain Outdoor Writers and Photographers is a regional organization of professional and semiprofessional photographers, writers, cinematographers, artists and others who specialize in outdoor subjects, ranging from fishing and hunting to hiking and exploring national parks.

Congratulations are in order. There is no stopping you two! It must be fun gathering the information you publish. I would enjoy that part and forget the writing and filming. Glad you can share your interests.
