GRNC Alert: Sen. Tillis Open to Obama Picks for Scalia Replacement

Thom Tillis ran for the Senate, promising he wouldn’t be another rubber stamp for President Obama. The senator needs to know that you remember those promises, and you’ll still remember four years from November . . .

Raleigh, NC -(Ammoland.com)- In 2014, Thom Tillis, the candidate ran for the U.S. Senate as the senator who would oppose the leftism that has been gliding too easily through the chambers of Congress.

Voters sent him to Washington with that in mind—someone who would face down the beltway press, and stand up to the go-along attitudes of the establishment types. We voted for someone whom we hoped would fearlessly defend the Bill of Rights.

Potential Disaster for the Bill of Rights

The unfortunate passing of originalist Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has brought to the forefront some terrifying possibilities. Namely, the potential lame duck appointment, by President Obama, of another far left Supreme Court justice. For the foreseeable future, this would tip the balance of every important Supreme Court decision away from Constitutional principles. It is not hyperbole to say it is something from which the nation might never recover.

Tillis Reconsiders the ‘Rubber Stamp’

With potential disaster looming, nearly all Republican Senators who have spoken on the topic have insisted the Senate will hold firm, and Scalia’s replacement will be appointed by the next president. However, not North Carolina’s Thom Tillis. He doesn’t seem concerned at all. In fact, the beltway press breathlessly touted Tillis’s “breaking ranks” from other Conservatives on this matter. From Politico:

[Senator Thom Tillis] suggested in an interview with The Tyler Cralle Show on Tuesday that lawmakers should consider any nominee the president sends forth and approve or reject based on his or her merits.

An ideological replacement for Scalia is “unlikely to happen,” Tillis conceded, “but I think we fall into the trap if we just simply say sight unseen—we fall into the trap of being obstructionist.”

Tillis was hired by the people of North Carolina for the express purpose of being an “obstructionist,” but oddly he is now terrified of being seen as one. So much for a fearless freshman to throw away the rubber stamp, and oppose those trapped in the beltway bubble. Tillis has been in Washington just under two years, and it appears he really, really likes it there—a bit too much.

Send Your Senators a Message

Below, see how you can easily remind your U.S. Senators, particularly our junior senator, Thom Tillis, that performance reviews are approaching (they always are). In Tillis’s case, he’s not leaving himself very good marks. Let him know that you he needs to do the right thing, because you will remember—even four years from November.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!

SEND SENATOR TILLIS A MESSAGE: Tell him that his constituents demand no hearings for the replacement of the late Justice Scalia as long as Obama is serving out his lame duck term. Use the link provided below to access the Senator’s contact page, and the copy/paste message provided under ‘Deliver This Message to Sen. Thom Tillis.’

SEND SENATOR BURR A MESSAGE: Just to be on the safe side, we’ll also remind Senator Burr that we expect no hearings for the replacement of the late Justice Scalia as long as Obama is serving out his lame duck term. Use the link provided below to access the Senator’s contact page, and the copy/paste message provided under ‘Deliver This Message to Sen. Richard Burr.’

DELIVER THIS MESSAGE TO SEN. THOM TILLIS:

Suggested Subject: “No Lame Duck SCOTUS Hearings

Dear Senator Tillis:

In 2014, you campaigned on the promise that you would not be just another “rubber stamp” for the Obama agenda. I voted for you with the understanding you would stand as an “obstructionist” against the president’s left-wing agenda, and stand firmly to restore and preserve freedom in our country. Your reaction to the unfortunate passing of Justice Scalia runs contrary to this sentiment, and I am appalled.

If there has ever been a time to live up to your campaign promises, this is it! A lame duck Obama appointment of another progressive Supreme Court justice would be a disaster from which our country would likely never recover.  It would effectively end the supremacy of the principles protected by the Bill of Rights, principles that are already under assault, and hang in the balance. The idea that you would even consider hearings for an Obama nominee at this point is enraging, and quite terrifying.

Senator Tillis, we did not send you to Washington to kowtow to the beltway press, and “make nice” with the ensconced establishment. Indeed, we sent you there to represent the people of North Carolina in our fight to restore genuine American principles of government.

I demand that you vote against holding any hearings for Justice Scalia’s replacement during the remainder of President Obama’s term. I assure you, I am paying close attention, and I will remember four years from November. I will be monitoring your words and actions on this topic through alerts from Grass Roots North Carolina.

Respectfully,

DELIVER THIS MESSAGE TO SEN. RICHARD BURR:

Suggested Subject: “No Lame Duck SCOTUS Hearings

Dear Senator Burr:

I’m sure you were as saddened and as concerned as I was after hearing of the unfortunate passing of Justice Antonin Scalia. He was a great man who fearlessly stood for original, Constitutional principles in the face of immense pressure to do otherwise. I will ask that you follow his lead, and also do the right thing regardless of contrary pressures you may face.

As you know, a lame duck Obama appointment of another progressive Supreme Court justice would be a disaster from which our country would likely never recover. It would effectively end the supremacy of the principles protected by the Bill of Rights, principles that are already under assault, and hang in the balance.

I was incensed when I heard your junior colleague, Senator Tillis, voice a “flexible” attitude toward another Obama appointment. I hope you do not have that same attitude. With that in mind, I am writing to reinforce that the people of North Carolina will not accept wavering on this issue. It is absolutely critical that you oppose any steps taken toward hearings for a replacement justice before the next president is sworn in.

I trust you agree with me, but I would like to hear it from you. Kindly respond at your earliest convenience. Also, I will be monitoring your words and actions on this topic through alerts from Grass Roots North Carolina.

Respectfully,

it has been 80 yrs since a lame duck president selected a Supreme Court Judge. WHY START NOW STUPID! To those who want “government to work” You are really stupid. That is why America is declining. Demo/progressive RINOs have destroyed America one compromise at a time. I bet you vote DEMO since your great great grand pa, great grand pa, grand pa and your father all voted DEMO. You sir are too stupid to wake up. If you think Gov works… you must be on welfare or disability and do not work for your money and pay almost 50% to… Read more »

From this article there is no indication that Tillis is “rubber stamping” anything. Many conservative senators have said the same thing. Try as you may, arm chair politics does not serve the country. Let the system work…..

We the people don’t need another white, black or yellow LIBERALS on the Supreme Court. We sure don’t need any Muslim’s on the Supreme Court or any other United States Court. We already have one Muslim too many.

Notice how this Muslim POTUS is building his army. He fires our top military brass Patriots if they don’t agree with him. He appoints liberals and muslim to a court and you can be sure he’s planning on doing the same to the Supreme Court vacancy. The POTUS is an anti-American.

Comprimise is surrender on the installment plan. This POTUS should be in Ft. Levenworth . Any who cherish ,or even value the Bill of Rights and our constitutional republic, shouldn’t give him even the time of day.

NutherChans, you are 100% right. The right thing is to consider and vote for or against the nominee put forward by President Obama.
Anything else is simply not doing his job.
To keep the Supreme Court without a full slate because of political viewpoint is scandalous.

from what i read is he is open to viable candidate if the president nominates one, this doesn’t mean he will rubber stamp it through . people need to remember this is why we voted for our representatives and senators to do there job and make decisions on such things for the best interests of there people and there states.Don’t get me wrong i do not want a lame duck appointment of a supreme court justice any more then the rest of you, but do you want important supreme court rulings hanging in the wind, because you just don’t like… Read more »

Who gives a damn if “Rubber Stamp” Tillis is afraid of being called names? He needs to do the right thing.

steve

Make it clear to all senators if they vote to confirm we will vote to send them home.

Charles

You say you don’t want a rubber stamp, but isn’t that what your asking? Let the president make his nomination, your right the person probably won’t be a good one, then you turn him or her down, that is the way the process is suppose to work. I don’t want any rubber stamping, I believe that everything should stand or fall on its own merit. Can we not all agree at least on this point.

Steven Lemon

I was all in favor of the initial reaction to Scalia’s death, but after careful consideration I have to agree with Tillis and a couple of others who, for their own reasons, are recosidering the “obstructionist” label. If the GOP does not even entertain the notion of meeting with, holding a hearing AND a vote for Obama’s nominee, it not only lables them as obstructionist but places in danger comtrol of the senate, with almost two dozen GOP senators up for reelection in November. If we lose the senate, even if we win the Whtie House, the replacement will be a… Read more »
