Springfield, MA -(AmmoLand.com)- The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) is pleased to announce the continued support of Smith & Wesson for the SSSF’s Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP).

Smith & Wesson has been a Founding Partner of the SASP since its inception in 2012 and continues to support the nation’s leading youth action shooting program into 2016. During the NRA Annual Meetings in Louisville, Matt Buckingham (Smith & Wesson President, Firearms Division) presented a check for $30,000 to Tammy Mowry (SASP National Director) and Tom Yost (SSSF Board Member).

Two thirds of the donation will be used for SASP general operations and one-third for the SASP Scholarship Fund for qualifying seniors in the Scholastic Action Shooting Program.

“We are honored to be a founding partner for the Scholastic Action Shooting Program,” said Matt Buckingham, president of the Firearms Division of Smith & Wesson. “This is an important program that provides kids from elementary through college the opportunity to safely participate in an exciting, team-based sport shooting activity that helps them develop a foundation for their personal values, sense of fair play, sportsmanship, and self-discipline. We are also pleased to be lending additional support to help shape their future by funding a scholarship program that will reward deserving SASP graduating seniors with college assistance.”

Tammy Mowry, national program director, Scholastic Action Shooting Program, said, “We are so happy to have Smith & Wesson as one our Founding Partners for the Scholastic Action Shooting Program. Their support of our program shows that they recognize the importance of being a part of making sure America’s youth are able to be involved in the shooting sports. We look forward to the opportunity of many more years of working with Smith & Wesson to promote the youth shooting sports.”

About the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF):

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) is responsible for all aspects of the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) across the United States. SCTP and SASP are youth development programs in which adult coaches and other volunteers use shooting sports to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. SCTP was developed as a program of the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) until the SSSF was created in 2007 to operate the SCTP. In 2012, SSSF created the SASP and became the managing foundation of both programs.
