USA -(AmmoLand.com)- Dry firing is the practice of shooting a firearm without ammunition in the chamber. Some say there is a significant benefit to dry firing because it is a great way to practice without wasting ammo.
Others against dry firing believe it can be harmful for your handgun and that the practice is not valuable because it does not really simulate live firing.
Both views have valid points. Most modern firearms are safe to dry fire; however snap caps and other dummy ammunition allow you to dry fire without the risk of damage to the firing pin. While nothing is an exact replica of live firing, regular practice operating your firearm can be highly effective at improving your shooting skill.
There are some precautions that you will want to take before you start dry fire practice. Watch the Dry Fire Safety Video with tips from Nick on Dry Fire Safety.
