Focus on Chicago Gangs and ‘Assault Weapons’ Reanimates Old Gun Ban Tactic

By David Codrea

Make YOUR “weapon of choice” before they're banned! And yes, this is how absurd “the rules” are. (GunTruths Archive)

USA – -(Ammoland.com)- “Assault rifles were used in all incidents, and city officials say they are becoming the weapon of choice in certain parts of Chicago,” CBS 2 dutifully warns. All the talking point elements are there, from using a term intended to demonize semi-automatic rifles in the title and repeating it five times in the “story,” to bolstering a sense of urgency among the uninformed that something must be done.

The neighborhoods are paying the price, little children are being endangered, everyone is scared, and there’s a proliferation of such weapons. “30-plus rounds [can be] unloaded,” and they’re being brought in by “trunkloads” from states with “lax gun laws.”

Translation: We need to ban the guns.  We need to ban the magazines. We need “universal background checks” and we need to close down the “iron pipeline.” For the children.

That fact that millions of Americans lawfully and peaceably own semi-automatic rifles goes unstated. Their rights are to be defined by feral misfits who are neither lawful nor peaceable, and whose violent choices make them unfit for unrestrained access to civilization.

The “assault weapon” ban has been the unholy grail of the monopoly of violence lobby ever since they figured out the original plan to go after handguns was too much too soon, and that incremental “progress” was needed. And they would have gotten away with it too if it hadn’t been for those meddling Second Amendment advocates.

You can't catch him, he's the Gunwalker Man!

So after the 1994 Clinton ban expired, the citizen disarmament crowd needed a new way to spook the herd. Blood-dancing after “school shootings” could only go so far as someone was always pointing out the inconvenient truth of “gun free zones.” So a new and more controllable plan was devised, one that would provide plenty of exploitable horror stories to go after the guns, the magazines, and the sales. Then, in early 2009, AG Eric Holder let slip that a resurrected ban was needed to fight cartel crime in Mexico.

And the rest is (as yet unresolved) history.

For now, the noisemakers in Chicago don’t have the political juice to try another nationwide ban, at least without risks of further exposing “No Guns” deficiencies and maybe even blurring the focus onto “refugee” admissions. Barring a “perfect storm” opportunity, there’s a bit more cultural terraforming/pathway to citizenship amnesty that needs to be arranged before legislative majorities to be reached in the next decade or so can get the job done “legally”.

But expect the public to be primed, and expect the old standby “weapons of choice” deception to play a part to a new audience. And understand that the term means whatever those using it want it to mean, as one of my GUNS Magazine “Right Watch” columns from 2005 noted.

“Weapons of choice,” depending on who’s got the floor, include:

“Smith & Wesson's .38-caliber revolver … assault weapons … Military-style assault weapons … The TEC-9 … AK-47s … nine-millimeter handguns … Junk guns … “

And in Boston, “machetes”…

Watch for the term to be increasingly used in the media to go after semi-autos.

    1. We need more of this recognition in America, These “Bozos” that call them selves News anchors and the general public Liberals know what the terms mean and verbage can do . Tbe problem is we arent publishing enough in return to discredit them and their terms..Fight Fire with Fire. Its the Justice system tbats failing and the loose gaps that allow the disruption of America by failing to act on these repeat offenders. Back ground checks only work on the honest.people.that buy weapons legaly ..not the dimestore variety that have their own avenies of aquiring weapons. Its the streets that should be our focus . Not the Law abiding public ..

    2. Wait untill the media discover the 6.5 Creed and the Ruger Precision Rifle. So called Sniper Rifles will get rolled up in this mess too.

    3. Remember the 1994 Clinton law enforcement initiative? Well it created a fund for law enforcement to cash in on… today 40% of the city of Chicago’s budget is for law enforcement…Sounds
like a racket?? Certainly more cops didn’t solve the problem…
More $$$ covers it up…So does WELFARE !! They had their chance and now it is time to take they’re” lollipop” away…
There should be zero tolerance for people that ” need or want” and not achieve results…. because the state of Illinois in the city of Chicago have not achieved the result that was intended with Federal matching funds then they should lose the privilege of policing and ceed Authority to the federal government to crush their Gang Related problem.

    4. David, you have again exposed the devious nature of the people who do not want citizens to keep and bear arms, and who will twist words into 180 degrees from their original definitions in order to accomplish their goals. We’ve been lied to and ridiculed by the very people who, a couple of years ago, swore they weren’t coming after our guns. It’s become obvious that they really do not hate guns, they hate us and, for obvious reasons they do not want to acknowledge, do not want us to have guns.

    5. How about we keep violent criminals (including gang members) in prison where they belong, and how about we protect our borders from invasion by illegal aliens? Most of the violence can be tracked back to folks with records as long as your arm. Why are they walking the streets?

    6. “The tank, the B-52, the fighter-bomber, the state-controlled police and military are the weapons of dictatorship. The rifle is the weapon democracy. If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military. The hired servants of our rulers. Only the government and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws.”
      — Edward Abbey The Right to Arms (New York, 1979).

      1. @Dave, But those are not the only weapons of dictatorship. Regulatory agencies that have the authority to make rules that “are not law” but have the force and effect of law; judicial overreach and disdain for the Constitution; Congressional disregard for their duties; and Executive Orders to the regulatory agencies are, also, the weapons of tyrants.

    7. Same Liberal Crap. Bad guns are the problem. Let me use their logic. If we take away all guns and save just one life it would be worth it! If we deport all illegal criminals and don’t let people the country that want to harm and we save just one life it would be worth it! LOL They don’t like it when you use their logic against their agenda.

      1. And Police.

        Because police need them.

Along with M4s, M249s, Grenade Launchers, and MRAPs. Your local constabulary definitely needs MRAPs.

    8. Remember – once the guns are gone, we will no longer be free men with the ability to determine our own destiny. Also when the Second goes, the rest of the rights soon crumble afterward.

      – the new definition of “To keep and bear arms” – by the Nuge
To keep – “Its mine and you can’t have it.”
To bear – “I have mine on me and its loaded.”
