2018 Maryland General Assembly Session Begins – Gun Bills Already Filed

Maryland – -(Ammoland.com)-The 2018 Session of the Maryland General Assembly gavels in at noon today, JAN 10th 2018. Your Maryland State Rifle and Pistol Association legislative team will be hard at work defending our rights from further encroachments and supporting positive 2nd Amendment legislation.

There are several bills that were prefiled before the session began that we are already tracking through the process.

  • House Bill 29 (Delegate Rey) / Senate Bill 27 (Senator Hough): Cross-filed bills advocating for placing the training requirement for a Handgun Wear & Carry Permit after a prelimary approval is received for the permit from the Maryland State Police. Our Position: Support.
  • Senate Bill 74 (Senator Ramirez): A bill to ban bump stocks and other firearms accessories that “increase the rate of fire” of designated firearms. Our Position: Oppose.
  • Senate Bill 99 (Senator Norman): A bill to codify personal protection and/or self-defense as a valid “good and substantial” reasons for the issuance of a Handgun Wear & Carry Permit.

We will be actively tracking bills throughout the session and will send occasional updates here and on the Maryland State Rifle and Pistol Association website.

About Maryland State Rifle and Pistol Association (MSRPA):

The Maryland State Rifle and Pistol Association (MSRPA) is the flagship Gun Rights organization in and for the State of Maryland. The Association offers both individual and club memberships. Support of the shooting disciplines and legislative activities is primarily through a systems of committees. All participants are volunteers. In the face of a near tidal wave of citizen disarmament occurring in Maryland, the MSRPA has played a critical part in drawing the line and standing firm for Gun Rights. Without this resistance, things would have been much worse and been so much sooner. Now the objective is to continue to develop new activists with numerous individual skills who will help us bring Maryland into line with the rest of the states which have made strong gains in protecting the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

There are parts of my own country I will probably never go to see again due to their oppressive policies and unconstitutional laws. It is most unfortunate and I wish all freedom lovers in those states much luck in their endeavors. However, I will spend my money only in places that support and defend ALL of the Bill of Rights!

They do not even want retired police officers to have hand gun permits I thing you would want as good guys out there who many be able to help as possible. Not just the bad guys with guns. If a police officers retires in good standing and wants to carry a gun he should be given a permit along with his badge. Now there some officers who do not want the permit but if he does why should he not get it.

Bump Stock Ban has been stopped temporarily. Holding my breathe. : O

I used to go to and stay in the Inner Harbor at least once every year for a few days, Baltimore has been on a fast slide to “hood” status for a few years. My CCW permit is not honored in Maryland so I cannot protect my family or myself, and it is obvious that the state and/or local police cannot protect citizens either. With that being said, no one including myself, from my family will visit or spend 1 cent in the commie S**T hole called Maryland. The state government and SS styled State Police put more effort into… Read more »

You have NO disagreement there! Chicago… heck??? Maryland’s right behind CA as the most commie state in this so-called union. I would leave (I meant left long ago)… but that’s not easy when another won’t go. But I do know the moves coming sooner than later. I am very glad that I don’y live in Baltimore or near it either. Here’s a get ya’!!! It was a Rep. State Sen. that released the now dreaded ‘MD Firearms Act of 2013’ from committee! It would never have became law if he had voted NO. I figure that someone or somebody had… Read more »

Born and raised in Maryland, used to love that state. We’ve been away for 35 years (job related move) and now find it hard to watch what is going on there now. Years ago when the Metro Rail was coming out into Md. many said the crime in DC would spill out into Md now seems to be the truth. I really hate to visit family there and don’t feel safe until We’re on the Dulles toll road heading back to WV where I have a CCW good in over 35 other states but of absolutely not worth the paper… Read more »

Baltimore has now taken the lead away from Chicago as Americas murder capital. You go, Baltimore! Sarcasm.

Bettye howard

I am glad you won’t be coming to Maryland. We are hoping people with your attitude stay away. We advocate gun safety and gun sense. We don’t need such negativity.

KyKPH

Bettye Howard I would really be interested in your definition of “gun safety.” To most people, it means how to properly store, handle, load, unload, and function a firearm. And “gun sense” means holding persons that misuse guns totally accountable for any misuse and not using any appropriate criminal charges to be bargained away because the offender is some type of “victim. Surely that is what you mean and hopefully not the “Orwellian” versions that really means total government control or ban of a Constitutionally protected right!

Bettye I was recently on a committee for a large national organization tasked with finding our national convention site where approximately 10,000 members will gather for 3 -5 days.. When Baltimore was suggested, myself and several others vehemently objected. A couple other cities were rejected similarly. We chose Tampa. So keep up wanting people to stay away and keep your vermin to yourself.

Wild Bill

@Bettye coward, Maryland is subject to the Constitution of the United States. That Constitution recognizes and enshrines the Civil Right of each person to keep and carry a firearm. Maryland is in open rebellion against that Constitution and should be occupied by Federal troops. You are a rebel. You should be charged, convicted, imprisoned, and all your property forfeit to the government of the United States.

@BH: Your definition is what exactly? I’ll bet an my most valuable firearm that 2A Marylanders would tell and suggest that you to move north to NJ , NYC and above. You know, one of those so-called commonBSsense things type of firearms that the Socialist-Commie ex. Gov. O’ Malley and the MD Commiecrats banned in 2013. You know the O Malley that BELONGED to a racist Club before gaining office but rescinded his membership. Unlike Pres. Trump who bought a racist club and freed it to all. Stop drinking the local TV/Radio coolaid. You’ll never find the truth in anywhere… Read more »

BTW! When John H. Josselyn was at MD’s AGC it was much better at notifying 2A Marylanders about pending session 2A legislation. Thanks, John! Keep it up!!!!!!!!!
