The National Rifle League Announces its First Match for 2018

SANTA ANA, Calif. -( The National Rifle League (NRL), a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to the growth and education of precision rifle shooting through a range of outdoors-related public interest activities, announced today that the first match of the 2018 season will be the Absolute Zero Sniper Match presented by Frontline Defense.

The two-day match will take place February 24th – 25th, 2018 at the Frontline Defense range in Warrenton, NC. This will be the first NRL sanctioned match ever held on the East Coast.

Competitors can expect target sizes of 1-2 MOA at distances from 200 to 1,100 yards. Registration cost will be $250 per person, which includes lunch for both Saturday and Sunday.

Paul Smith, the range owner of Frontline Defense, will be the match director. Paul has been involved in the firearms and precision rifle industry for 10+ years. His service in the military began with the 1st of the 75th Army Airborne Rangers, followed by commanding the US Army Special Reaction Team’s Sniper Unit at Fort Rucker.

After, he wanted to find a way to share these positive experiences with friends and family, so became involved with the NRA and completed the NC Concealed Carry Course of Instruction.

More recently he graduated from the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors Course among other instructor courses — helping him further serve the needs of the community.

He has had experience being an instructor, range officer, and match director. Paul has also competed in matches such as VPRC, Guardian Long Range, Woody’s DMM, and the K&M SEPRCA Finale.

“The NRL is proud to have Army veteran Paul Smith of Frontline Defense representing us on the East Coast. Bold and decisive are qualities that describe Paul, and exactly what it takes to introduce the NRL to the East Coast,” says Tyler Frehner, Director of Match Operations, National Rifle League.

“I like to think of matches as training. Not many folks get to shoot outside of matches due to where they live. My goal is to challenge shooters at any skill level,” said Paul on why he decided to become a match director and contribute as a board of director on the NRL.

“Getting involved at the ground level of a growing industry is what I like to be involved in. I liked what the mindset of the NRL was all about.”
Registration for The Absolute Zero Match is now open to both NRL Members and the public.

The match will be open on a first come basis.
