From what I have learned about masks over the last 6 months is basicly, they can’t do the job they are meant to do. The best masks are good to keep anything out of your body down to 0.300 microns, the corona virus size is 0.125 microns. That is a full 0.175 microns smaller than the 0.300 microns the best masks can defend the body from. On the road I see people driving down the interstate at 80 miles per hour and the only occupant in the vehicle wearing a mask. It seems the mask culture has become part of… Read more »

The only occupant in the car wearing a mask is how you spot a Biden voter!

Vern

No doubt.

Vern, Yes and no. The virus is smaller than the filter size, but it doesn’t travel on its own. It attaches to larger moisture particles and those are large enough to be filtered. To make it even more filterable, masks aren’t a straight through design. The weave in the filter material, not the cloth that you see people wearing, is a maze-like design so that the particles have to make lots of sharp turns. Each time it makes a turn the whipping action makes the particles adhere to the weave and stop. That’s the mechanical action of a mask works.… Read more »

That makes sense, but there are a myrd of different types out there now and I have even seen a doctor, when taking my wife for an appointment, wearing one that we could actually see through. When I asked about it he said like you did that the virus needs a water molecule to enter, but the molecule has that when you wear a mask long enough because your breathing produces the moisture for it. The mask he had eliminated the moisture problem. But they are hard to find. I wondered if he might have made it himself. I have… Read more »

Vern, You’re right, any mask will lose its filtration when it gets moist. that’s why we were told to only wear masks for 8 hours at most at work. The answer is to have multiple throw-away masks or a few washable masks and change them as necessary. The procedure masks that you see have layers that do different things, filter moisture or particles as an example. They are the least acceptable type fo mask, the simple cloth ones are merely spit hoods. NON-paper masks can be hand washed with hot water and soap as a first choice; soaked with Hydrogen… Read more »

I’ve been a smoker of 40 years. Been working construction. Have not missed a day. I have been working with characters from all over the world. I have yet to wear a mask. Live in PA , worked in MD & VA. Do tell what other HEALTH CONDITIONS they had. Be curious to know who did the autopsy ? Or was this when hospitals got PAID to push the virus narrative ? I have yet to wear a mask & won’t. People don’t wash products bought at stores. And they aren’t getting sick. No one wipes a damn thing down.… Read more »

Arny,
I’m not telling YOU how to live your life. I was answering questions that Vern had about mask filtration. I don’t discuss specifics of anyone’s medical history and I don’t have any need to defend my positions. I explained why I had an emotional component to my choices. My emotions don’t apply to your choices. You do you.

What gets me is your fueling the hysteria. Tell the WHOLE TRUTH. Quit with the half truths. No one asked for specifics. Like name or address of relative that died. Then you best get a MOPP suit & decontaminate DAILY upon returning home.

Dave in Fairfax

Arny,
I’M not fueling any hysteria.
You did ask for specifics, “Do tell what other HEALTH CONDITIONS they had. Be curious to know who did the autopsy?”
I was explaining how different masks filter and what works best. We all have reasons for our beliefs, I haven’t attacked yours. Please do me the same courtesy.
As I said, I am not telling you how to live your life. If you want to smoke and not wear a mask, then you make your choices, and as long as they don’t impact me, that’s fine.

I watched my mother in law die from emphysema and she wasn’t diagnosed until she was in her fifties. She didn’t smoke until she was in her 20’s, she smoked 2 to 3 packs a day. When you get to the end you can inhale but you can’t exhale. Your heart speeds up to supply your body with oxygen that your lungs can no longer supply. It takes a few weeks but if you don’t have oxygen going into your body you don’t last very long. Was I a smoker? yes, I was. I smoked non-filtered cigarettes, up to 5… Read more »

So do tell what other conditions did they have in general ? Was there a autopsy to confirm cause of death ? And Doctors have expressed their concern to push the numbers. You act as if I could tract your relatives with minute information. https://youtu.be/y6h8TIxeg1g

Vern

Her emphysema was well documented, she had no other medical problems. My wife and daughter was with her when she passed and her mental capacity was clear. She was taken off the ventilator and all life support and left the hospital as she wanted to die at home. The doctors told my wife she would last no longer than three days, she died less than 24 hours later. People who die from emphysema actually die from heart failure, their hearts beat faster and faster until it stops from exhaustion, trying to get the oxygen to the rest of the body… Read more »

Cancer is a really nasty word, just like the illness it describes.

Vern

Thank you Dave, you gave me more information about masks than I have heard anywhere around here. There have been 5 people die from the virus, supposedly, and they have bounced the numbers around several times trying to match up with what the state says they should be. I know one couple who lost a loved one and he was diagnosed as having the virus even though they took him to the hospital as he was having a heart attack, he died in the ER and they didn’t know they put covid19 on his death certificate until the next day.… Read more »

Vern, I’m glad I was able to help, we can take this back channel if you want, that might avoid irritating people who want to interject politics into it. I’m sorry about your MIL. Watching someone die of any respiratory disease is very hard. Like watching a person drown and not being able to do anything about it. Been there done that, scores of times. It’s a nightmare. There is never any excuse for a Dr or hospital falsifying a cause of death. This is a new and not understood yet disease which affects different people very differently. It is… Read more »

In this state it seems to be all about politics, even people I know and am related to, some are democrats, are getting sick of the politics being injected into everything.
Thank you for interacting with me and you have a great day.
I’m in my mid 70’s and still can’t get into the retired thing, I am doing a remodel for some people and have a busy day ahead of me.

Dave in Fairfax

Vern,
Be careful while you’re working. My wife can always tell if I’ve been working. If I’m not bleeding I’ve been screwing off, not working. There’s a bunch of us late 60s to mid 70s.

Vern

Yeah, we are a bunch of thin skinned bleeders.

Dave in Fairfax

No crap. My wife bumped into the corner of a shelf at the store a week ago. I whipped out the Kwik Clot and started dealing with the damage. The store people wanted to put a bandaid on a tear about 2X2″. They couldn’t understand that a bandaid would make it bigger and not stop the bleeding. I’m doing daily dressing changes, but at least there’s skin growing in over most of it now.

Gittin old, ya know?

Oldman

Yeah, it hit me when I turned right around 70. Go out and load small branches into a wheel barrow and all I had to do was have them brush up against my skin and voila!!, bleeding under my skin. My cuts and bruises take about 4 times longer to heal too. This gettin’ old is REALLY gettin’ old….

Vern

Every day above ground is a good day.

RoyD

My biggest cause of skin bleeds is my youngest son’s year old Anatolian Shepard. He goes crazy when he sees me and his front claws are very “pointy.” So I usually end up with a couple of several inch long bruises on my arms that leak blood. He, Ramen, is such a good dog that I don’t mind the damage his exuberance causes. The thin skin thing started for me when I hit 60, so about five years ago.

Vern

Long sleeved shirts help to keep the bleeding down but I live on the edge of the desert and it gets unbearable in a long sleeve shirt after April. But November is coming.

RoyD

I own two long sleeve T shirts and two long sleeve dress shirts. I do not like long sleeve shirts. If I am wearing a dress shirt then someone is either getting married or buried. Oklahoma is also very warm seven months out of the year.

Vern

Very humid there also, my mom was from Bartlesville and the humidity tore me up when we went there.
