California Attorney General’s Action Puts State CCW Permit Holders in Jeopardy

California Attorney General Rob Bonta
California Attorney General Rob Bonta

California – -(AmmoLand.com)-On Monday, California Attorney General Rob Bonta posted the names and addresses of concealed-carry permit holders on the California Department of Justice website.

In a press release, Bonta claimed the move was to “improve transparency and information sharing for firearms-related data and includes broad enhancements to the platform to help the public access data on firearms in California, including information about the issuance of Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) permits and Gun Violence Restraining Orders (GVROs).”

He also claimed it will help promote “gun violence” research, and foster “trust between law enforcement and the communities we serve.”

Make No Mistake, This Was 100% BS.

Bonta’s move was clearly retaliation for the Supreme Court’s decision in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen, which affirmed the right to bear arms outside the home.

Bonta’s true intent was to put Californians on notice that if they want to exercise this right, they will pay a price, and the price will be their privacy, safety, and security.

You see, Bonta has created a handy reference guide for burglars, home invaders, and other criminals. Now, they’ve got a searchable database of firearm owners and homes where guns are kept. Guns have always been the third most sought-after item by burglars, after prescription meds and cash.

What’s not included in Bonta’s press release, tweets or media interviews is the chilling effect this will have on the Second Amendment in the Golden State. Anyone who wants to carry a defensive firearm must now risk a complete loss of their privacy and the increased likelihood they and their family will be targeted by criminals.

I’m sure California’s booming gun-ban industry, which likely played a significant role in developing this idea, has already made plans on how to use the database to its advantage. Look for massive doxing, which will include false red-flag complaints, cyber-crimes, and other online harassment.

At one time California led the nation in online data security….

The California Database Security Breach Notification Act (Cal. Civ. Code 1798.29), which became effective in 2003, requires “any person or company conducting business in California that owns, licenses, or stores certain types of computerized personal information to disclose any breach of the security of the system by notifying California residents whose information was or is reasonably believed to have been, accessed by an unauthorized person.”

I wonder if California Attorney General will notify the state’s CCW permit holders that their data has been breached.

I’m guessing he won’t.

Terrorism isn’t terrorism if the government does it. It’s law enforcement.

It’s time to give California back to the Mexican government since they don’t believe in freedom or the constitution.

Sir, the problem with California is like the same problem I noticed while in Africa. I did antipoaching and anticarjacking operations over there. It was an honor to protect the beautiful African animals from the African beasts.
Africa was beautiful and the problem was it was full of Africans. That is the problem with California, it is full of Californians.

swmft

chop it off let it sink into the pacific to join all the flotsam and jetsam down in the dead zone

MICHAEL J

Bonta is just like his predecessor Becerra. Let’s publish all politicians and bureaucrats addresses for the same sake.

Arny

Yep fight fire with fire.

swmft

there is a good idea, they are attacking us and our privacy let them have a taste of their own medicine

Rock

Post any and ALL info on Mr. Bonta, his family, job, phone number, address, etc. online (or just fliers left randomly). Time to finally deal with these arrogant, crime committing ASSHOLES !!!!!

BillyBobTexas

The California branch of the NRA, the GOA, the 2nd Amendment Foundation and everyone else should publish the names and address and phone numbers and work and school address of this guy and ALL his family, including his parents, cousins, aunts/uncles, EVERYONE. Public info. Get it published out there. And then do it again. What a P.O.S. And don’t bother to tell me it’s dirty politics….because it IS! And we need to do the same. If this happened in my state…I’d be doing it on every public social media I could find.

saucerdesigner

Amen!

james

Try locating the same info for members of the CA legislature, you can’t. They block that info by law because they don’t want you to know it, they block public records that way for privacy.

Trussman

I wonder how many state, local and federal politicians, and their bodyguards, had their information scrubbed from the list before it was published? I’m almost willing to bet that there isn’t any liberals on the list, while they probably left the conservatives on the list.

As a side note, if you move away from Cali to any other state because you are fed up with stupid crap like this, please do not bring said stupid crap like this with you when you vote in the new state.

Just sayin’

Dave

Not to worry, can’t stand California politics, their way disgusts me and won’t follow me to my new state, just hope my new state doesn’t get totally californiacated.

If you move to one of our western states please understand that segregation between civilized and uncivilized people is what has kept our areas safe. Using religion to say all cultures are equal like conservatives have done since the 60s, is how you get third world California. We did not White flight out here and surrender good lands to third world cultures, like in your urban areas. That means our third world cultures can’t be used to lower our rights by both parties, like in your state. Reagan should have been executed for what he did to your states gun… Read more »

In FREE places police seldom write tickets, they stop and change tires do wellness checks tell the parents of a mischievous teenager what they have been up to so it can be corrected, they are not a revenue stream like in most places where is andy when you need him

JSNMGC

What won’t follow with you to a new state?

Support for gun control, or support for a massive government that forcibly redistributes wealth in many, many ways.

Plenty of people who support firearm rights also support the core principles of socialism/communism or some weird Starship Troopers authoritarian, statist vision (with an ever-increasing number of armed government employees).

when the government gave money out and said stay home, i refused their giveaway of hard earned tax monies, and worked. Thing that changed with me went from two ccweapons to three or more had work to do in other states I went and did it , I dont want anything from the government and dont give them any information about me after what I have lived and seen I would not trust them as far as I could throw them..When I was young trust was given as was respect, now both must be earned, and few are worth giving… Read more »

I’m so glad I live in Florida! I went to a field office of the Agriculture department this morning to renew my CCW. I was in and out in 10 minutes with my new permit for 7 years at a cost of $45.00. And, the people were absolutely polite!

JSNMGC

Over 8,000 Floridians have had their firearms taken without due process (and, in many cases, without even being charged with a crime) in just the last few years.

Straight-Shootr

So, publish BONTAs’ address on line. See how he likes it..

Arny

ALL his addresses. Maybe the robbers will hit a house he’s not residing in. lol

doug

Better yet they will hit a house he is residing in, and he will not survive

swmft

license plate so they can jack him

This act is criminal. Bonta needs jail time.

james

Did they purge Feinstein’s info, she was proud to say she owned a revolver back in the day.

Rob J

So, I can not access my adoption records under the guise of sensitive information and protecting an innocent party, but this is allowed? Utter BS!

I have three daughters and I’m concerned about hereditary medical problems passed to my children and grandchildren. I have specifically requested non identifying information that disclosed medical history and have been denied repeatedly by the state and courts.

Boz

He requires a beat-down with a piece of Hickory. Notice l am NOT advocating “gun vioIence”.

Cappy

My parents moved to California when I was 7-years-old. I moved out when I was 30. Except for very short visits after the deaths of my wife’s parents (also California residents) I have never seen the need to go back. Geographically, it’s a beautiful state. But politically it is poisonous. This (Bonta’s criminal activity) is what passes for good government. And don’t forget, this is the state that gave us Piglousy and Feinstein–those shining examples of Constitutional government./sarc off

Bonta=A Feces eating dog!

Dave

Just tried to access the portal, currently taken down. Hmmm.

swmft

likely received a lawsuit personally, that is for millions with every cc holder as plaintiff for damages what he did is outside of the law so he would have to pay

Mag a Mor

Ironically, the CA DOJ maintains a “Data Security Breach Reporting” system. Given the severity of this breach, I might suggest that this resource be utilized to report Bonta’s Breach.

Jim March

It’s not just CCW holders, it’s gun and ammo buyers too.

Where he screwed up though is he names *judges*. Lots of them – by name, *address*, the works.

CCW permits for judges are a separate category of permit in Cali. >>The database is searchable on that basis.<< Over 200 listed just in LA County.

He's done fucked up. Bad. Epically bad. I do agree this was pure retaliation but somebody didn't think through all the consequences.

If there are any fatal home invasions that can be traced to this mass doxxing there's gonna be hell to pay.

Deplorable Bill

If this guy did this, and he very likely did do this, he has endangered many, many good and innocent people. He is a sworn member of government which means he had to take his oath of office. Therefore the man is a traitor, the man is tyrannical, the man is a felon. There are righteous, legitimate, legal and permanent penalties for the crime(s) he has committed —– which he has publicly admitted to doing. When is government going to actually follow the constitution they swore to uphold? When are the laws against tyranny and treason going to be enforced?… Read more »

Stupid childish Dickhead move by typical tyrants who can’t play fair or right with other’s. Childish sophomoric Bravo Sierra continues while the justice system continually looks the other way. Couldn’t be more obvious.

What are the Repubs gonna do about it? NOTHING!
What you see is a game that the rulers are playing. This way they get you to give moneys, and time, regardless of what they tell you, or what you may think, it’s all just a game to make you think you have some control over the goings on in this country.
What your see happening before your eyes is the New World Order making it’s move to take over the entire world! Ever last one of them should be strung up!
IF NOT NOW, WHEN?

The main difference is that under communism, most property and economic resources are owned and controlled by the state (rather than individual citizens); under socialism, all citizens share equally in economic resources as allocated by a democratically-elected government
