Experienced shooters and new revolver owners alike have been asking for the return of a shrouded hammer revolver designed for concealed carry, and Taurus has answered. The Taurus 650 offers a smooth, Double Action Only (DAO) trigger pull with an internal shrouded hammer, making it the ultimate choice for everyday carry and quick deployment in critical situations, even allowing the revolver to be fired from pocket concealment without fouling or
jamming the action.
“This is the ultimate expression of what my friend Darryl Bolke refers to as ‘the snubby lifestyle’,” said Caleb Giddings, Manager of Marketing, Taurus USA. “Some people want a simple, reliable DAO revolver they can carry every day, and this gun answers that need perfectly.”
The Taurus 650 is compatible with a variety of existing 5-shot speed loaders and holsters for similar .357 Magnum models, making it versatile and user-friendly for both experienced shooters and new users alike. As pointed out, it is actually hammerless, like the S&W 642. A shrouded hammer is what you find on the S&W 638. For legal reasons, when used for concealed carry the hammerless is a better choice.
Watched a couple of youtube videos featuring the gun and IMOA, the gun would do the job as advertised for SD. Anyone have one and can comment on reliability?
Yes, you are not reliable.
I want to thank you for your profound comment on the reliability of the Taurus revolver. I’m sure others will read your post and gather you are truly knowledgeable and an expert on the reliability of the Taurus .357 Mag. revolver. Once again thank you for the very informative report.
Apparently, can not read reliably, either.
You sir are a vast unexploited cornucopia of untapped knowledge concerning the reliability of the Taurus revolver. Anyone here that asks a serious question can always rely on your infinite expertise.
I have written not one word about the Taurus revolver.
When you do write that one word, it’ll be universally revered as the most important and cherished word that has ever been written on the functioning and reliability of the Taurus .357 Mag. (Click here for your Medal)
By the power vested to me by the Milky Way galaxy, I give you tomorrow off.
Twenty years ago I saw two Taurus revolvers and one semi-auto that came out of the box broken. These appeared to be knock-offs of the S&W 686 and Beretta 92. Has the manufacturing quality control improved? My guess is yes, or they’d be out of business. Unfortunately, it soured me on the entire brand.
Hey, long time no hear from. You will like this fellow. He claims to be a Marine.
I’ve checked the Taurus line out in the LGS and was hoping to fire one at the LGR that rents guns, but they didn’t have this model. The you tube videos seem to give me a good idea of the guns function and reliability. I have a 6″ Ruger GP100 .357 Mag. but it’s a little cumbersome to conceal. Thanks.
That’s NOT a shrouded hammer, you have it confused with 605. SMH
I was going to say the same, but Taurus describes it as “shrouded” on the website.
To me, “shrouded” is a Taurus 851 or S&W 49 “humpback” that you can still access the hammer for single action cocking.
This is an “internal” or “hidden” hammer.
Since it’s double action only, not interested.
FYI, Ballistics by the inch shows a 200 – 300 fps gain going from a 2″ to a 3″ barrel in .357 mag.
I prefer a .44 Spl 210gr @ 900 fps from a 3″ barrel.
Have a Good Day
A revolver should have at least six chambers.
More chambers requires a larger cylinder. Compromise is made in interest of selling this item as a pocket pistol. Generally everything is a compromise. I’d love a 1000 round drum for my AR – but would not like cost, reliability, or weight.
Have you seen how thin a Kimber K6 is? You can have a think 6 shot snubby.
