Accokeek, MD -(AmmoLand.com)- Uberti announces the launch of its new 1885 High Wall Big Game single-shot rifle, which brings a number of firsts to the company’s rich history.

In the past, a number of states limited deer and other big-game hunters to shotguns only during firearms hunting seasons. Now, a growing list of formerly shotgun-only states are approving the use of straight-walled rifle cartridges for big game hunting, opening up a host of new possibilities for sportsmen and women. Chambered in .45/70, the Uberti 1885 High Wall Big Game is poised to enter the market with a winning combination of 19th-century tradition and 21st-century functionality.

The new 1885 High-Wall Big Game is built around the classic 1885 single-shot, falling-block lever action, with which Uberti has a long and successful manufacturing history. The remainder of the rifle, however, is geared specifically to meet the needs of today’s hunter. The stock and fore end have been completely redesigned for use with modern sporting optics, for which the 22-inch barrel comes drilled and tapped, The rifle also features a Picatinny rail (included) allowing shooters to quickly mount their favorite optics. For hunters who prefer open sights, an adjustable dovetail-mounted rear sight is also included, as is a traditional front sight.

Uberti’s 1885 High-Wall Big Game weighs 6.7 pounds and features an accurate 22-inch blued barrel and a particularly crisp trigger. Each 1885 High-Wall Big Game rifle sports a satin walnut stock with checkered fore end and pistol grip plus a soft rubber butt pad to lessen felt recoil. With an MSRP of $1,119, the new Uberti 1885 High-Wall Big Game is an ideal choice for hunters looking for more range, power and practical possibilities in former shotgun-only states, as well as for traditionalists who prefer hunting with a single-shot rifle.

I wish it came in more calibers. It would be an awesome platform in .25-06.

My reservation about a single shot rifle for hunting is the ability to make a quick follow-up shot. There have been excellent articles on this important aspect in recent issues of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation magazine, “Bugle.” In particular, in the November / December 2015 issue, I recommend “Stricken Elk and Second Chances, . . . Fire as if you only have one chance, then fire again” on page 151 – https://www.rmef.org/NewsandMedia/BugleMagazine/Archives.aspx.
