Why Gun Rights Advocates Should Support Ted Cruz

North Carolina –-(Ammoland.com)- Perhaps jaded by twenty-two years as a gun rights leader, I’ve never thought much of presidential politics.

We’re usually instructed to endure the “lesser of two evils” by centrists who don’t want you to consider that the lesser of two evils is still evil.

So I didn’t hold high hopes, last year, when a fellow conservative activist told me the Ted Cruz people wanted to meet me. I expected to meet a candidate who would “speechify” for thirty minutes, wave to his adoring fans, and leave.

Instead, Senator Cruz sat down at a table of perhaps two dozen activists and said, “Okay, what should I be doing?” What followed was nearly two hours of give-and-take which convinced me that Ted Cruz had the potential to be the next Ronald Reagan – convinced me so effectively, in fact, that I agreed to be a North Carolina state campaign co-chair.

What most impressed me was his point that we should never listen to what politicians say, but rather pay attention to what they have done. For example, Donald Trump makes all the right noises about supporting the right to keep and bear arms. His website contains the following verbiage: “The Second Amendment to our Constitution is clear. The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed upon [sic]. Period.”

That sounds great until you consider what Trump said a few years ago: “…I support the ban on assault weapons and I support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun.”

In truth, Donald Trump’s beliefs are most accurately summarized in one of his more recent statements: “I’m very capable of changing to anything I want to change to.” Therein lies the real Donald Trump – a snake oil salesman with enough smarts to know what you want to hear.

When I studied the voting histories of Sen. Cruz and Sen. Marco Rubio, at first blush they appear quite similar. But where was Rubio in 2013, after Sandy Hook, when Barack Obama attacked the Second Amendment with a massive gun control scheme parading under the misnomer “universal background checks”?

It was Sen. Cruz, along with Sens. Mike Lee and Rand Paul, who solicited a letter from Senate Republicans vowing to filibuster S.649. It was these three statesmen who forced Democrats to get sixty votes for cloture on S. 649 – and the long list of horrific amendments proposed to the bill, including semi-auto and magazine bans – instead of simple majorities.

But for the efforts of Sen. Cruz, today we would be living under a massive gun registration scheme disguising itself as “universal background checks.” Just today, after the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, Cruz promised to filibuster whichever nightmare Supreme Court nomination Obama sends to the Senate.

Beyond Cruz’s perfect 100% pro-gun voting record, he is, to date, the only presidential candidate to return Grass Roots North Carolina’s presidential survey – scoring a perfect 100% and securing Grass Roots North Carolina’s highest four-star (****) evaluation.

Some US senators, such as Richard Burr and Lindsey Graham, reportedly hate Ted Cruz. But they hate him because he has held their feet to the fire over issues as diverse as Obamacare, the budget, and gun-control. In fact, Cruz practices exactly the same type of confrontational politics to which Grass Roots North Carolina attributes its twenty-two years of success.

Grass Roots North Carolina does not endorse political candidates. But for these reasons, among others, I personally endorse Sen. Ted Cruz for President of the United States. Anyone who supports not only the Second Amendment, but the American ideal of individual liberty should join me in electing a president who has not only memorized the Constitution, but who lives it each day.

OK Winston, thank you for your missive from the, at best unstable, left. As to reality, I’m supporting Cruz for President. I’ve Never donated money to any candidate before in my entire life, but I’m donating to Cruz.org. I’m on a fixed income, badly damaged by the failing so called “economy” of our little king so the amounts are not large. But if you Love America, help Cruz win. At the start of the campaign I looked hard at Walker, Fiorina, Carson, and Cruz. Rubio, Bush, Kasich, Christie, etc. were and are RINO’s and unacceptable in this political atmosphere. Walker… Read more »

Yay let’s support the guy who’s been given money by those oh so friendly people who took your tax dollars (thanks to Obama) from the bailout, Goldman Sachs. Oh wait you didn’t know Heidi Cruz, the wife of Ted Cruz, works for Goldman Sachs? What, she was also a member of the Council of Foreign Relations advocating for a North American Union? Ted Cruz is a damn Trojan Horse. Another RINO and Israel firster that has all you staunch republicans going gaga. This Canadian guy, might not even be eligible to be president. Folks, there is a reason that the… Read more »

We all know that any scumbag Obama nominates would bring about an all out assault on the second amendment as well as the constitution in general. It will take great men such as Sen. Cruz, Sen. Lee, and Sen. Paul to hopefully hold the line as Mitch ( Obama’s bitch ) McConnell will fold like a cheep suitcase.

Vote CRUZ 2016

The following were good quotes in the article: Trump said “…I support the ban on assault weapons and I support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun.” Trump said “I’m very capable of changing to anything I want to change to.” NRA lobbyist Marion Hammer said of Rubio “he talked the talk, but he didn’t walk the walk” on Florida’s pro gun legislation. Rubio is a typical establishment candidate. And lets not forget how he stood with Schumer, and the gang of eight. Cruz has never waffled or flip-flopped on the Second Amendment. I’m all in for Cruz.… Read more »

I agree 100% TED CRUZ or it is hard telling what this country will become.

I feel as though Trump will win by a landslide. And I don’t see where any of us can do much about it. I also see it as being a huge mistake. I hope to God I am wrong. Now, having said that. I am pretty much fully behind Cruz, say 98%, with that niggling 2% saying: but he’s not really electable, as he still has to get through the general election, even if he were to beat Trump.

I am in complete agreement with Mr. Valone. I, too, am volunteering for the Cruz campaign, something I have never done for any candidate before. Cruz not only supports the 2nd Amendment, but the entire Constitution, as written by the Founders. I’m a big fan of Ronald Reagan, and consider him the greatest president of my 58 year life – by far. But I truly believe Ted Cruz has the very real potential to be greater for America than even Reagan. And for the record, I believe Trump would be a disaster. So please, none of that Cruz / Trump… Read more »

This election is the choice between pestilence, famine, and death, so it’s still possible to make an informed decision about which of those would be right for you. Personally I’m going to laugh my a$$ off as Trump continues to make leftists cry themselves to sleep at night. And then I’m going to get ready for war.

Plate carrier, plastic wondernine, a 5.56 that takes NATO mags, and going back on the exercise routine they ran us through at MCRD all those years ago. That’s my vote.
