USA –  -( I recently was approached about testing out the Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 3.0 IWB holster.

Inside the waist band holsters are a big deal to me because I carry a firearm concealed everywhere I go, and I don’t mind spending a few extra dollars to get something that is comfortable and cuts down on printing. I have never owned an Alien Gear holster although I have been told good things about them by other gun owners so I jumped at the chance to try out the Alien Gear Tuck 3 holster.

Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 3.0 IWB Holster

Alien Gear sent me two holster to test out. The first holster was for my new Glock 43. This gun would become my “tee-shirt holster” so cutting down printing is a must for me. The second holster was for a Smith & Wesson Performance Shop 642 Air Weight.

For some reason I have had a hard time finding a holster that felt right with this firearm.

When I first opened the package what stood out to me was the sleek and sexy design of the holsters. Instead of the holster being smooth leather it is textured which gives it a unique look with an American flag and an alien head imprinted on the leather. The texture of the holster screams luxury.

Another thing that stood out is the 3 types of spacers and screws that came with the holsters. These help the consumer adjust the retention to their liking. This means you can make the holster truly yours.

The set of spacers and screws that comes pre-installed on the holster should be perfect for most people so I decided to test the holsters out without changing the spacers and screws.

For my testing I would rotate the holsters every day. This would allow me to test out two different types of guns and expose any flaws in the holster design. I was using another brand of holster for these two guns the two weeks previous to get a base line as to what these guns would be like to be carried every day. The holsters I purchased actually cost more than the Alien Gear holsters, but looked cheaper and felt cheaper.

Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 3.0 IWB Holster’s Neoprene Lining. Note the adjustable nylon clips and extra holes.

The first holster I tried out was for the Glock 43. I noticed the comfort of the neoprene lining of the holster. It felt like the holster disappeared into my body and was hardly noticeable. I have been used to using holsters leather backings so the neoprene was a very comfortable change and well thought out.

I can’t understand why more companies don’t get away from the rough leather and go with a material like neoprene.

The J Frame holster was just as comfortable as the holster for the Glock 43. The nylon clips held the holster tight against the body which cuts down on the printing. Even when an observer knew I had a firearm on me they could not find the print of the gun easily. This is critical in the hypersensitive world we live in now.

The nylon clips along with the steel retention core kept the holster from moving and the firearm in place. Alien Gear offers an option for steel clips. The steel clips are nice, but in my experience it doesn’t hold as well as the nylon clips. Alien Gear recommends the nylon clips and I would strongly agree with them.

I am also used to having a break in period with my previous holsters. Alien Gear claims there is no break in period, and with both guns there was absolutely no break in period. I could draw easily from either holster without issue. The draws were smooth and re-holstering was simple. The retention was just right. The firearms would stay in place until it was time to draw the gun.

The value of these holsters is just incredible in fact these holster are a steal. The holsters are American made and you can tell the pride they have been made with. I will pay a little more for an American made product, but with Alien Gear this isn’t necessary as these have the same price point as most Chinese made holsters from Amazon and eBay.

Everything about these holsters screams high quality. Alien Gear claims that their holsters are the most comfortable on the planet and from my experience I would have to agree. I look forward to testing these holsters over time to see if they hold up. From my initial impression they will.

Alien Gear Holster’s Score:

  • Quality 4/5
  • Look 4.5/5
  • Comfort 5/5
  • Value 5/5

Do they make one specifically for a Walther PPK?

John C Crump

Most likely they do

As I write this, it appears you can get the holster about $10 cheaper if you go right to Alien Gear’s website.

I love my Alien Gear Clock 3.0 holster for its comfort. However, the metal reinforcement wore through the neoprene backing in about 1 year. The metal reinforcement has a sharp edge on it and started cutting my skin. The clip screws keep coming lose. Blue thread lock fixes the screw problem, but would be nice if the screws where already pre-coated with a thread lock. Although I’m a little disappointed, for the price and warranty this is a great value. Alien Gear replace the back part of the holster with no questions ask, and sent new hardware with it. I shill for no one. I love these holsters and they was easy to reholster for me. I am not saying you didn’t have trouble, but I didn’t. Different body types have different issues. All I can do is reiterate my experience. Just to prove I don’t shill look at my review of the ATN gun cam. Once you lose honesty and objectivity and become the MSNBC of reviews then you reviews are worth nothing.

BTW Veritas means truth.

Are you comfortable traveling down the road in you’re car or truck w/IWB ? I conceal carry OWB w/oversized shirt. I don’t need another bill like a trip to the chiropractor’s office.

John C Crump

I concealed carried every day driving with them without an issue

Pistol Pete

You lied ! The worst holster I ever bought !

If you do not were pants that are two or 3 sizes to big you will never get the gun back in the holster after you pull it out.

John Crump how much did they pay you to tell these lies ??

Joe Capuano

No so much worried about putting the gun back as I am pulling it out……GREAT holsters….fair price, lifetime guarantee…get another gun, just sent in the shell and they will replace it FREE of charge…Whats not to like ?

Seriously? Just because someone likes something you don’t means they’re on the payroll. That makes sense.

For one, when you look for an IWB holster, it’s almost always recommended to go up a pants size or two. Myself? I have the Cloak Tuck 3.0 and I didn’t have to. I have no issues drawing or re-holstering I also did a ton of research read multiple reviews from numerous sources online before I spent my money and I feel I’ve found the best deal out there. You can ask for much better. But that’s my opinion.

Christopher Eller

Pistol Pete,

Did you not read the instructions and adjust the tension on the gun retention by adapting to smaller or larger inserts and by tightening the screws to the preferred tension?

I wear my Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 3.0 IWB Holster all day, every day. In my case I intentionally use the smaller inserts and keep the screws tight so my 9mm doesn’t easily come out.

It’s not the perfect holster–but it’s damn good. I only wish they made matching IWB dual magazine holders.

They now offer single and dual iwb mag holders. it’s actually for iwb and owb.

I’ve purchased 9 Alien Gear holsters, between those bought for myself, my wife, and colleagues at the school in which I teach. They are top notch, their customer service is par excellence, and they are just an outstanding American company. I don’t bother with any other holsters anymore

These are great holsters. Alien Gear also has a free shell replacement policy. If you change your firearm, just send them the old shell and they will send you a replacement free of charge. I have taken advantage of this policy on two occasions and they have been quick to send me my replacement so that I am “down” for a minimum of time.
