USA – -(Ammoland.com)- Rare hand carved decoys, sporting art, firearms, weapons and militaria will be made available in an upcoming auction by Eldred on Aug 2 2017, as part of a three day live auction. The sale is hosted on eBay’s Live Auction platform, allowing eBay’s 171 million active buyers the opportunity to bid on an extraordinary selection of unique items in real time.
The August 2nd auction features a stunning selection of naturalistic decoys, sculptures and paintings, including rare decoys by A. Elmer Crowell (1862–1952), a master decoy carver from East Harwich, Massachusetts who specialized in shorebirds, waterfowl, and miniatures.
Consistently regarded as the finest and most desirable decoys ever made, adapt at blending artistry and functionality, Crowell’s carvings of a preening pintail drake and Canadian goose decoys share the world record at $1.13 million dollars.
Highlights in the upcoming auction also include carved Canada Geese decoys by George Boyd (1873-1941). Famed for making both solid and canvas-covered decoys and carved miniature wildfowl, Boyd focused on Black Ducks and Canada Geese carved in Elder wood and hand painted to perfection.
Another signature work at the auction is a painting of a setter on point by Robert Kennedy Abbett (1926 –2015), an American artist and illustrator best known for his paintings of wildlife (in particular, dogs), wilderness, sporting, and fishing. Abbett was inspired by the untouched wilderness and forests, and began painting what he has become famous for today: animals and countrylife. The original owner received the painting directly from the artist and it depicts the owner’s setter at his Connecticut hunting camp. Included in the lot are photographs of the dog as well as a signed copy of The Outdoor Paintings of Robert K. Abbett by Gene Hill.
Other pieces in the auction include carved decoys by William Bowman and Jacob Scholer; a set of three continental brass handled swards from the 19th Century; a life-size stuffed Aplomado Falcon from the late 20th Century by master Greek artist Al Jordan; and iconic David E Perkins Fish Decoys.
