U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)- The FBI opened an investigation into the Clinton Foundation for a “pay to play” scheme. The FBI investigation comes on the heels of calls to look into the Uranium One deal with Russia.
Twenty percent of the US held uranium was transferred from US control to the Russian government under the Uranium One deal. This agreement was approved the by the Hillary Clinton run State Department. The issue is that Clinton agreed to the transfer after a Russian lobbyist donated $145 million to the Clinton Foundation. Hillary Clinton's husband, former president Bill Clinton, was also paid $500,000 for a short speech by a Russian bank with Kremlin ties that was involved in the deal.
The probe is looking into whether that Clinton traded political favors, such as the time Bill Clinton was paid $17.6 million from a university to serve as the University chair (mostly a symbolic post with no real duties), and then received a grant for $25 million from the Clinton run State Department. According to reports to The Wall Street Journal, the FBI has been collecting evidence against the Clinton Foundation for more than a year. Under the Obama administration, the FBI received pushback on the probe from the Justice Department to stop the investigation.
Late last year Jeff Sessions instructed agents to look into “certain issues” with the Clinton Foundation. It seems that some of the recovered emails from former Clinton aide Huma Abedin show that big donors to the Clinton Foundation did request and receive special treatment from the State Department in return for donations and large payments for speeches by Bill Clinton. The special treatment includes when the Clinton Foundation received a significant contribution from Qatar. Bill Clinton also received a $1 million birthday present from Qatar. The Qatar government then got a meeting with then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. It is interesting to note that Saudi Arabia closed the borders to Qatar for exporting and supporting terrorism.
One aspect of the probe is whether some of the Clinton Foundation's tax-exempt assets were transferred illegally by the foundation for personal use by the Clintons and others. Evidence seems to suggest this happened during the foundation's relief efforts in Haiti.
Even with all the evidence, Clinton Spokesperson Nick Merrill claims the probe is a “sham” He claims this is Trump administration trying to distract the American public. He told Fox News, “This is a philanthropy that does life-changing work, which Republicans have tried to turn into a political football. It began with a long-debunked project spearheaded by Steve Bannon during the presidential campaign. It continues with Jeff Sessions doing Trump’s bidding by heeding his calls to meddle with a department that is supposed to function independently. The goal is to distract from the indictments, guilty pleas, and accusations of treason from Trump’s own people at the expense of our justice system’s integrity. It’s disgraceful, and should be concerning to all Americans.”
The widely documented alleged abuses of the Clinton Foundation have been chronicled in books such as “Clinton Cash” by Peter Schweizer who follows the money of the foundation. In the book, Schweizer breaks down how the Clintons became rich by selling access through a pay to play scheme to businesses and foreign governments. Brutal dictators run some of these states such as Oman. The book documents how they amassed $130 million through these alleged connections.
Clinton Foundation spokesman Craig Minassian also insinuated that the probe is a politically motivated attack.
“Time after time, the Clinton Foundation has been subjected to politically motivated allegations, and time after time these allegations have been proven false. None of this has made us waver in our mission to help people,” Minassian told The Hill. “The Clinton Foundation has demonstrably improved the lives of millions of people across America and around the world while earning top ratings from charity watchdog groups in the process.”
Multiple members of Congress have pushed for an assignment of a special prosecutor to look into the Clinton Foundation. As of now, one has not been assigned by AG Jeff Sessions. One issue that might be hard to overcome is the statute of limitations which is only five years. Hillary Clinton left the State Department on February 1, 2013. This narrow time frame would mean charges would have to be filed by prosecutors this month which doesn't look likely.
