Opinion. Tom puts the Puma SGB Mule Deer Hunter Knife in White Bone to work in this knife review.

The Puma SGB Mule Deer White Bone knife is not only a functional skinning knife but it is also sweet looking.

USA – -(AmmoLand.com)- I recently received the PUMA SGB Mule Deer White Bone knife to test. At first glance it stands out as a pretty knife. The white bone handle looks like it is made out of ivory, which you don’t see much of. I don’t like a super thick handle and this one isn’t. It is only ½” thick and 15/16” at the widest point so it fits my hand perfectly and should fit anyone with a medium sized hand fine.

The Puma SGB Mule Deer White Bone knife also has a brass finger guard and thumb grooves on top of the spine so you can choke down on the knife and still have a firm grip. It is a well-balanced knife due to the tapered tang.

Puma SGB Mule Deer Hunter Knife in White Bone Looks:

It is a nice-looking knife. The silver blade, brass bolsters and the brass Puma SGB emblem centered in the left handle along with the metal pins and brass lined lanyard hole makes for a nice looking and yet still a functional skinning knife.

It comes with a stout built leather sheath. It doesn’t have a flap that snaps over the top but it does set down deep in the sheath. But it doesn’t push in too snug. I wish it set a little tighter Holding it upside down I can shake it out in two good shakes. Probably not an issue unless you’re riding a horse or sliding down mountains elk hunting.

In 2015 Puma SGB introduced their first Puma SGB Mule Deer Hunter. They were a hit so Puma SGB has expanded on that line. I think the Puma SGB Mule Deer White Bone knife is the elite of the group.

It has a drop point which makes it a good skinning knife and a 3 ½” blade which is my favorite size. The knife is of medium size which I prefer. If you like a stout built knife then you should check this one out. If you like a dainty knife then this one may be a little chunky for you. I say this because it is a thick bladed, heavy knife and is heavy feeling.

Due to its stoutness, I think you could almost say that it could cross over into the Bushcraft or Survival knife classification. So even though it is a hunting knife, I think that you might also find it useful in the Survival and Bushcrafting class.

The Puma SGB Mule Deer Hunter is available in Stag, Micarta, Wood, and White smooth bone. All Puma SGB Stag and Bone handled knives come with top grain leather sheaths that are 100 percent vegetable tanned and feature a rich, durable brown aniline finish that lets the full beauty of the leather show through. Micarta and Wood handled knives come with ballistic nylon sheaths.
