NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the firearms industry trade association, praised President Donald Trump’s rejection of the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty that was signed by the Obama Administration, but was never ratified. President Trump delivered the announcement at the NRA Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, Friday, April 26, noting, “We’re taking our signature back. The U.N. will soon receive notice that we are rejecting this treaty.”

“President Trump’s rejection of this ill-advised treaty is a win for the American people and a win for America’s firearms and ammunition industry” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “President Trump, today, reasserted American sovereignty of our inherent rights. This demonstrates again that this administration continues to deliver on the promise to protect Second Amendment rights and value the contributions of the firearms industry to our freedoms and economy.”

The U.N Arms Trade Treaty was signed by Secretary of State John Kerry in 2013 and sent to the U.S. Senate for ratification but was never taken up for a vote. The treaty was intended to control the international trade in firearms under the guise of protecting human rights. The National Shooting Sports Foundation strongly opposed the treaty as it would have exposed the firearms and ammunition industry to a confusing web of international regulations that would not have contributed to curbing illegal arms trafficking, protecting human rights or guaranteeing the rights of United States citizens.

International arms sales remain highly regulated by U.S. law and this action has no effect upon these stringent export controls.

    1. Hopefully this will mean that I can buy brass, bullets, rifle parts, and optics directly from Brownells or Midway and import them into Canada just like anything else. ITAR has made the shooting sports more difficult up here in the great white north. ITAR has also made the shooting sports much more expensive with all the stupid egress paper work we have to do just to import a trigger part or scope.

    2. I thought Trump might start the process of dumping this progressive, third world outfit off our soil. They are way too close and those blue helmets would sure make good targets. At least we are off the hidden gun confiscation paper and I am surprised that it didn’t get passed when Obama was in office. Chalk up another win in our column.

    3. The next time you argue with an anti-gunner who maintains that the NRA is a “lobby for the gun industry”, tell him: You, as usual don’t know the facts. The lobby representing the firearms industry is the NSSF. The NRA represents responsible gun owners and is one of the key sources for gun safety education. Get your facts straight!”

    4. I see everything for a good entertaining rodeo except a four legged bull. We have plenty of BS and lest we forget the highest paid “rodeo clown” of all time.

        1. I hope you didn’t or don’t own a bump stock. I also hope you get along with everyone and never give anyone a reason to issue a red flag warning. Remember how many choices Chump has given you. Dig your head out of the sand he is the biggest liar of them all. Our first president could not tell a lie. Our present president can”t tell the truth.

          1. Oh i neglected to tell how you can tell he’s lying; his lips are moving. He’d lie when the truth would suit him better.

    5. If the U.N. is behind it or pushing it, you KNOW it is pro leftist, anti gun and ANTI AMERICAN. they USE us for their cash flow and a place to call home. They are screwing the U.S. in every way possible. Yet the useless Kenyan loved them, imagine that !

    6. I know after Obummer signed this BS treaty… I could no longer buy sardine cans of 7.62x54r surplus ammo or crates of mosins .I now see they are for sale at an ungodly price..will the prices come back down now? It’s not like those are rare rifles.they are a decent rifle but because of the amount manufactured it really takes the value down.
