New York’s Red Flag Law Could be Ironic Factor in Attacking Donald Trump

Will President Trump give “thumbs up” to “red flag law” enforcement if the bell tolls for him? (The White House/Facebook)

U.S.A. – -(Ammoland.com)- “Scaramucci: Trump Is a ‘Sociopath' Who ‘Has Levels of Mental Decline',” Townhall reported Friday. The unceremoniously dumped former White House Communications  Director was continuing in his quest to destroy a president he once praised. And he had a giant megaphone, courtesy of CNN, to do it with.

Why President Trump ever took “The Mooch” on in the first place baffled those of us who at the time questioned his principles and loyalty.

Anthony Scaramucc is not the first to make that very public case—even leftist shrinks have joined in the public chorus alleging the president is mentally ill. Per Salon, another “progressive” propaganda site hostile to Donald Trump (and naturally, to the right to keep and bear arms):

“Dr. Bandy Lee, who is a professor of psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine and editor of the bestselling book ‘The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump’ convened a panel comprised of leading mental health experts to evaluate Donald Trump based upon his behavior as detailed in the Mueller report. Their definitive conclusion: Trump is mentally unfit, a threat to the United States and the world, and as such should have his powers severely restricted.”

Unsurprisingly, such “experts” are divided on the “ethics” (and there’s a malleable term of convenience for moral relativists) of publicly diagnosing someone they’ve never examined. If you’re a “progressive,” you can use politics to justify anything, and we’ve got an extensive and relatively recent historical record on the totalitarian nightmare that enables.

There’s a reason why they call us “gun nuts.” (Note many links in that old blog post are no longer active.)

Once again, Donald Trump’s “Take the guns first, due process later” endorsement could come back not just to haunt him, but also to be instrumental in advancing public opinion that the president’s alleged instability presents a danger meriting a big red flag. That’s the kind of infringement “Republicans” like Scaramucci call for, and it’s something gun owner rights advocates have warned the president time and again not to fall for.

Trump may be, as the line from Hamlet goes, “hoist with his own petard.”Because “thanks” to “gun control,” his enemies may have all the ammunition they need to deal a severe, if not a crippling, blow to his presidency.

We know from news reports that Donald Trump obtained a rare (practically impossible for the little guy) New York City concealed carry permit. A separate permit is required just to possess a gun there.

Even if they're now inactive, they know he’s got guns.

New York recently enacted one of those “due process later” red flag laws:

“A new law in New York will allow law enforcement officials … to seek a petition to seize the guns of people that courts find are dangerous to themselves or others.”

That he’s no longer in the city might stop enforcement and confiscation, but it shouldn’t stop a judgment and order against what was authorized there, and that’s where the political damage would be. New York’s top LEO, anti-gun Attorney General Letitia James has already shown a penchant for being creative in getting attention for herself by going after manufacturers in other states.

Besides, if “the supreme Law of the Land” doesn’t stop them from making stuff up to suit their purposes, anything goes. It’s not like any burden of proof is on them.  “Due process later,” remember?

As a Democrat and close ally of gun-grabbing Gov. Andrew Cuomo, anything  James and he can do to hurt the president is not just a political imperative, for them, it would be personal. And it’s not like they wouldn’t have their pick of Party loyalist judges who would be more than eager to gain more favor and future considerations, and of “progressive” psychiatrists practically orgasmic at the prospect of signing on.

So why give them ideas?

You don’t think Democrat strategists haven’t already thought of this? They’re evil, not stupid.

I’m simply hoping getting ahead of it can somehow help put Republicans on notice that there’s always a danger such weaponized diktats will blow up in their faces—maybe then they’ll stop offering preemptive surrenders like Marco Rubio and Lindsey Graham have. And I’m also hoping it can be a wake-up call for the one guy gun owners elected who keeps greenlighting new infringements and won’t even do something simple for them in return like acknowledging the Second Amendment was not “given” by government.

Anyone who believes “gun control” is not political has not been paying attention to the reason governments impose citizen disarmament. Only the ignorant and/or naive actually believe it’s really about “commonsense” or safety. Each edict is about would-be tyrants amassing more power to use against those they would rule.

And each concession takes those who, hell yes, would absolutely take your guns, one “baby step” closer to that monstrous goal. That’s not a lesson we should need to teach those who promised their fidelity in return for our trust.

At some point President Trump will recognize that the attacks on him are just the same as Red lag laws that don’t require any proof and for which there is no penalty for lying.

@USA – I see the large numbers of effected, but have not found news of looting and shooting. Perhaps lack is due to my lack of googlefu – but do you have references or anecdotes showing rise in CA crime?
So sad that CA has become a 3rd world state.

@USA I guess its a good thing I didn’t talk about how they regulate how much power an unplugged Microwave oven is allowed to use. 😛 Good points on the Seals and Lines.. By the way, Don’t we need to adjust for inflation too, and we better figure in for currency exchanges. Perhaps if we get a good deal on taxes for the water going through them The Government might throw in a complimentary roll of poison ivy sandpaper TP with each bowl. @Wild Bill Yeah, I’ve known who they were for a few days now. Also knew they were going to other articles and scrolling through all the comments making sure they tagged each one of mine with a negative. What they weren’t smart enough to understand is that it’s not me that is worrying about it, it’s them. If I said something similar, it wasn’t worded directly in that way so I don’t think it was me. It’s been a busy week, with many late nights. I don’t want to take credit for someone else’s work.

I for sure don’t think public opinion is the god that was created. The original sin is still that I think, and that is SELF. Have to get some sleep for tonight. If’n I don’t hear from you before next week, enjoy your weekend.

Well ladies and gentlemen, We seem to have an elderly baby in the room. Unable to answer why he felt he had the right to decide how other people need to vote, and unable to understand or comprehend how advocating violating other people’s rights of association via voting due to his feelings on the subject is hypocritical when talking about how its wrong for a group of people to violate our second amendment rights because of their feelings.. In the temper tantrum that ensued, this individual has ignored direct questions asking how statements he has made conflict with “Rights” he… Read more »

Apparently, standing up for the truth is also now “Self-serving” BS. By their own admission in their post, it certainly hasn’t garnered me popularity, is it self serving that way? No. It certainly hasn’t made me any money, so no self service there. The one thing it has done is upset middle aged Male Greta Thunberg clones to get up and say “How dare you!”, which is slightly humorous, but I digress.

@Greg K

Hypocrisy seems to be a thing going around these days. Mr Codrea has been penning some articles very critical of Donald J Trump that have made some individuals lose their faculties. 🙂

I’m waiting to see how far some of them are willing to take their dishonesty on the subject, especially the notion that the Constitution only concerns them when they decide its appropriate.

Good to still see you here.

Makes me smile Rev…have been up voting your stuff for some time. In fact, I have only down voted people, maybe 2 times on this site? Someone has to be so vile that it’s inexcusable for me to do it. All that said, I wear em like a badge of honor. “It breeds cowardice and vindictive manipulation from people too lazy to show their work.”

This is why I call it an “Ideology Distillery.” Something I would add; It’s pretty hard to champion free speech, when one is habitually down voting (shut up) others.

Your second paragraph could easily been written by myself…Spot on. There are some conspiracy theorists and we just have to take it with a grain. USA makes me laugh some times; some time they throw something out so profound, it makes me re-examine my position briefly.

@Greg K

There is nothing wrong with introspection. I have to do it myself all the time, forcefully argue against myself and juxtapose my positions, read opposing materials, and look for the truth. Two quotes come to mind. “Iron sharpens iron” and “Know you are right, then proceed”. Glad to hear you are taking it to heart, even if only briefly.

Distillery is definitely a wonderful and apt description for it, and much more polite than the term I use.

Good article, David. You sure got a lot of attention with this subject. I have felt and said several weeks ago that what is good for the goose is good for the gander, meaning that if we are going to get punishment before due process then Trump deserves it as well. Another thing that sticks in my mind is that he may throw us under the bus, in his next term, knowing that is his last run.

@TT – No Pence fan, however once we start term with republic president – we will no longer be depended upon trump either. Poor behavior with respect to 2nd could result in GOP getting on board for impeachment.
Most of GOP is afraid of trump’s base turning on them if they oppose him in anyway or anything. While we need at least a semblance of unity though the 2020 election – “leaders” need to be made aware the GOP base cares more about issues and results than about personalities.

some states do, illegally, require the one applying for the “Mother May I Card” to “register” the guns that Card will enable the applicant to use under the terms of that Card. Personally really excited for Trump to get impeached. Asking other countries to interfere with elections is highly communist. It’s disgusting. We need a president smart enough to do what’s needed to protect the freedom we have a right to. A president that’s off of social media, and that doesn’t have the maturity level of a 8th grader. Someone who actually understands politics. Trump acts like he’s helping the little guys, but my taxes went up. A lot. Trump needs removed so our country has a respectable leader.

Anyone who knows the history of the twentieth century knows why to not give up their guns here in the United States of America. During that bloody century, the bloodiest century in mankind’s history, over a hundred seventy million people (at least) throughout Europe and Asia (a dozen or more countries) were murdered by their own government after the guns were first registered and then confiscated. Only the government had guns and the citizens were helpless to defend themselves against tyranny. There are laws that enslave men and there are laws that set men free. Red flag type laws are NOT among the laws that set men free. There MUST be due process. There MUST be penalties for false accusations by civilians and especially for those in law enforcement, judgment and those who write these treasonous laws as they MUST be held to a higher standard. Unless and until these obvious, natural, legal ideals are heeded there is not only the chance, there is the likelihood of violence up to and including the possibility and the probability of a second war… Read more »
