Stoking Stay-at-Home Hysteria Another Way to Discourage Gun Ownership

And if a home invader doesn’t practice social distancing or doesn’t want to wait for you to unlock and assemble an effective response…? (Everytown for Gun Safety/Facebook)

U.S.A. – -(Ammoland.com)- “Gun safety groups concerned about the increase of unintentional child shootings during stay-at-home order,” a Saturday Arizona Republic opinion piece masked as news ominously warns. “[A]ctivists question whether gun owners are following safety guidelines and properly storing their guns to eliminate the risk of children finding them and accidentally injuring themselves or someone else.”

Of course they do.  Because they’re not really “gun safety groups,” they’re gun-grab groups. And because it’s another talking point they’re signaling the useful idiots to parrot.

They learned long ago that announcing their true intentions impedes manipulation of the uninformed, and that nothing works better on the cud-chewers than “For the children.” Keeping children ignorant actually puts them in more danger, but that won’t be acknowledged because safety isn’t what power-hungry frauds pulling useful idiot strings to bring about a “monopoly of violence” are really after.

COVID-19 realities have caused many Americans to reconsider their position on gun ownership, and it upsets them seeing their agenda set back. So the gun-grabbers are doubling down on what they do best—stoking fear with misdirection. And naturally, a paper that is “part of the USA Today Network,” that is, a Gannett Publication, is happy to help.

That’s the same outfit that violated its own ethics policies by outing and thus endangering gun owners in New York some years back (and then retained armed guards after experiencing an outraged backlash).  It’s the same outfit that allowed columnist Donald Kaul, in its Des Moines holding, to advocate dragging the Republican leadership from the back of a truck and repealing the Second Amendment, along with these “commonsense gun safety” measures:

“Declare the NRA a terrorist organization and make membership illegal. Hey! We did it to the Communist Party, and the NRA has led to the deaths of more of us than American Commies ever did. (I would also raze the organization’s headquarters, clear the rubble and salt the earth, but that’s optional.) Make ownership of unlicensed assault rifles a felony. If some people refused to give up their guns, that ‘prying the guns from their cold, dead hands’ thing works for me.”

Gannett Publications is not interested in gun safety and employs no one qualified to offer lessons if it was to. Instead, it and other prominent members of the DSM (Duranty/Streicher Media) represent themselves as the voice of reason or concern. They demand potentially lethal “one size fits all” mandates that are enforceable by the “Only Ones” (who have storage problems of their own and who don’t credit the origin of that TAPS concept they present as original).

No one wants to see children killed by irresponsible and ignorant gun owner actions and negligence, but that needs to be put in perspective, as is done in the excellent Gun Facts resource. Note we don’t see many “mainstream” editorials demanding laws to ban automobiles, household chemicals, and swimming pools.

We also need to understand that it’s a calculated lie to equate risks for all households with risks from criminal households, where destructive behaviors and associations heighten dangers.

It is the much-maligned “gun community” that has been trying to work its way through prohibitive edicts to offer real safety training. For their part, gun-grabbers, wherever they have been able to get away with it, have declared ranges “non-essential” and forced them to close, precluding “hands-on” training and actually making things more dangerous.

It’s almost like they’re banking on self-fulfilling prophecies involving child deaths so that they can get more media coverage for “We told you so” gloating.

Here’s a little “thought experiment” that hardly requires any thought at all. Imagine the outcome had the resident in this video followed gun-grabber “lock up your safety” advice:

Since were all home together what better opportunity then to teach our children firearm safety.

Well, my eldest is 41 and his safe is filled with more expensive guns than mine is. The 36 year old younger one only has two handguns but he did spend nine months in Afghanistan training Afghan troops so he’s pretty well squared away. Now the three grandkids, the oldest has a liberal mother and the two younger ones (his current wife) are too young for that just yet. I say they are too young while remembering that my oldest fired his first shot at 3&1/2 from a Star PD 45ACP. Slide almost hit him in the forehead. It was… Read more »

IMOA, Don’t let the gun be a secret item that will entice children or teens to go looking for them. Teach your kids to handle the guns safely from the start and only with adult supervision. Teach them the safety rules of handling guns, take them shooting and demonstrate why the gun can be abused if in the wrong hands. Shoot a few melons to drive home how lethal the projectile will be if it is used wrong. If you fear there is a security issue to securely lock up your guns, put a locking doorknob on the closet door… Read more »

EXACTLY! I did some of the same exact things you mentioned. I used a 44 magnum and shot a few melons and didn’t let them wear hearing protection for the first shot. Kept them back about 25 yards so they could see the mess that thing made. And I told them that if they wanted to handle a gun ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS ASK and I’d let them handle any of them they wanted as long as I was there. Did totally away with the curiosity thing. Even had my three year old come to me and say… Read more »

Damn. Just damn. You shouldn’t be around children let alone guns. What a fucking moron.

gun owners ask if anti-gun activists have any concept of reality. if they were truly concerned with safety of children they would have firearms safety training in school. they are leftists, and they along with the so-called media use firearms along with anything else they can, including the Wuhan virus, as a scare tactic and only they have the solution. their solution is to totally take away our right to self-protection, and leave the scary guns in the hands of the government.
if they were truly against harming children, they would abolish abortion.

A State’s Hunter Safety Course should be part of the school curriculum. When the NRA came up with the “Eddie Eagle” child safety course the gun-grabbers went apoplectic.

“[A]ctivists question whether gun owners are following safety guidelines and properly storing their guns to eliminate the risk of children finding them and accidentally injuring themselves or someone else.”

That is none of said gun grabbers business but then neither is infringing on Americans second amendment rights, perhaps instead they Eff off.

Wild Bill

@GMB, Living up to the gun grabbers’ standards is putting them in the leadership role. I strive to store my guns in loaded and on the table condition in every room in the house.

Green Mtn. Boy

@ Wild Bill

It’s up to every gun owner where and how to store his or her firearms as the see fit, can’t go wrong with your method as well and to top it off that’s your choice as it should be.

Wild Bill

@wjd, Well, I do have the advantage of no children or grandchildren. In fact, no one under fifty has ever been in my house, and they know not to touch what is not theirs.

WB, Exactly my condition on all points. Daughter is in her 30s and an excellent shot. She’s grown up knowing that there is always something within arms’ reach and that it is in ready-to-use condition. Not one of them has every gone rogue, they are well regulated.

Oldman

@DiF My daughter turns 40 this year. When she was 4, she was as good a shot as her older bros. My kids grew up with loaded guns all over the house, knew not to mess with them and were knowledgeable enough in their teens, to educate their peers and alleviate any unsafe condition when they were out and about. One of my sons probably saved the lives of a few kids when he was 16 and over at a friends house. The homeowners son found a loaded shotgun and was waving it around showing it off to the other… Read more »

Oldman, Good for him. Daughter is from second marriage, so I’m up there too. Sounds like somebody didn’t teach the kid right. Touching is bad enough, but waving is time for some sense to be pounded in from the bottom.

The antis (Democrats/liberals) never miss an opportunity to use a disaster, crisis (mass shooting), or any event to try and encourage gun control, no matter how ridiculous their logic (convoluted) appears to be as the non-gun owners don’t know or care about facts.

Ansel Hazen

Where does funding for BeSMARTforKids come from?

JIAZ

@Ansel, Smart Question. When in doubt, Always follow the money

BeSmartForKids, MomsDemandAction, and EveryTownFor GunSafety are essentially one organization designed to appear as three separate entities to better facilitate, as the author points out, “manipulation of the uninformed”.
It’s one three-headed anti-2A monster funded by Bloomberg.

Ansel Hazen

Thank you. Kinda figured it was along those lines.

KK

A smarter strategy would probably be to keep a gun on hand so that if a violent intruder or two, (or three) breaks in you have one handy to instantly GIVE THEM so that they can instantly accidentally SHOOT THEMSELVES . . . guns being so dangerous so as to only function as intended in the hands of HIGHLY TRAINED GOVERNMENT ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS . . . as we are told.

Mikial

Hey, get real, folks. The Liberals don’t want their voters shot while they are innocently invading a home filled with filthy Conservatives.

tj_mcz

These people are so evil. Their misdirection is so anti-American. So glad I grew up in a home where we had weapons and were taught how to handle them. Thank you David, for pointing out these sowers of chaos.

When I opened my Email I saw the meme and the first thought that came to my mind was already posted under the meme on this site.
“And if a home invader doesn’t practice social distancing or doesn’t want to wait for you to unlock and assemble an effective response…? ”
Sometimes I think we need a day a year for a real honest to goodness real life “purge” so that we can smack people like Donald Kaul types in the face with replica “Lucille” bats.

I just made one of those this weekend out of an old wooden pickax handle and some barbed wire scavenged from an abandoned farm. It was much harder to construct than you can imagine. Barbed wire does not like to be wound around something so small, and I had to pre-drill the holes for the poultry staples because the wood was so hard.

I call mine “SPLOOSH!” for the sound of a skull mimicking a watermelon.

Esp if one has some inkling of what lies below DIA. When one becomes aware it is the capitol city of the DUMBs, one cannot help but also become aware of the strange activities that simply must take place there above groundlevel. The sheeple, OFC, remain blissfully unaware of everything that isn’t carefully placed in their mouths for their ignorant consumption by their masters.

The other Jim

@wjd, if those surgeons were smart they would get out of the country now; if he dies his sister Kim Yo-jong will have them tortured first before she has them killed.
