Manasquan, NJ –-(Ammoland.com)- With the revelation over the weekend that confiscation of firearms efforts seem to be underway in NY State for those deemed by the State to be “mentally unstable” , the next logical question is, who else could be classified as “unfit” under a “mentally unstable” label defined broadly enough to drive truck through?
And the implications are terrifying.
We already know that the Wicked Witch of the West, Dianne Feinstein has publicly stated that she believes all veterans returning from Iraq or Afghanistan should be denied their Second Amendment Rights
Here is what she said word for word
…this adds an exemption of retired military. umm, as i understand our bill, umm, no issue has arose in this regard during the 10 years the expired ban was effect, err in effect. and what we did in the other bill, was umm, exempt possession by the united states or a department or agency of the united states so that included active military. the problem with expanding this is that you know with the advent of PTSD, uhh, which i think is a new phenomenon as a product of the iraq war, umm, it's not clear how the seller or transferee of a firearm covered by this bill would verify that an individual was a member, or a veteran, and um that there was no impairment of that individual with respect to having a weapon like this. so you know i would be happy to sit down with you again and see if we could work something out but um, i think we have to — if you're going to do this, find a way that veterans who are incapacitated for one reason or another mentally, uh, dont have access to this kind of weapon. http://tiny.cc/o019uw
We also know that Janet Napolitano's Dept of Homeland Security has released numerous reports over the last few years demonizing; “lovers of liberty”, those that are suspicious of centralized government, fans of Ron Paul, those that believe in personal freedom and sovereignty, Second Amendment advocates, the same returning military veterans that Feinstein publicly smeared and a plethora of others; as “potential domestic terrorists” and “unstable individuals”.
We know that authorities in Virginia last year arrested veteran Brandon Raub and forcibly detained him, against his will and without probable cause and committed him to a VA Facility for a forced psychological evaluation.
WASHINGTON, August 22, 2012 — Brandon J. Raub, a 26-year-old pro-liberty activist, former U.S. Marine, and Virginia resident, was arrested after authorities deemed his Facebook posts threatening. Citing an obscure statute allowing the involuntary detainment of a citizen for psychiatric evaluation, the FBI, Secret Service, and local authorities swarmed Raub’s property to question and then seize him.
Without a warrant or recitation of his Miranda rights, Raub was handcuffed and taken into custody. After a quick hearing, government officials confirmed that Raub’s Facebook posts necessitated his detention, refusing to acknowledge legal objections that the words were wrongly interpreted. The former Marine will undergo 30 days of evaluation at Salem VA Medical Center. ( http://tiny.cc/hd29uw )
It was only a rapid and concentrated protest that rallied massive attention to Brandon's plight that resulted in a Judge ordering his immediate release. ( http://tiny.cc/ye29uw )
“Raub, who was being held in the psych ward of a Salem, Virginia, hospital was released after a Hopewell judge dismissed his case. The judge said the petition for his original detention contained no information on why Raub was being held, so the judge ruled the government had no grounds to hold him. “

So who else could find themselves in the cross hairs of the State or Federal Government Leviathan's efforts to crush dissension and resistance to whoever they have planned by labeling as “unstable” or “mentally ill” ?
Well, how about women? That is right, women!
For the past several years women have been by far the fastest growing segment of the firearms purchasing demographic, increasing their numbers at an exponential rate. So what makes this segment of society vulnerable to the aforementioned machinations of the State?
According to the American Psychological Association Post Partum Depression Fact Sheet, 9 to 14 percent of all women will experience some level of post partum depression. When women have previously been diagnosed with PPD and have another child, that percentage increases dramatically to a whopping 41 percent!
What is the most common treatment method for PPD? Psychological treatment. Counseling and often Anti Depressant or Anti Anxiety medication.
The implications for the abuse of the label “mentally unstable” , under the loosest of definitions is horrifying, particularly in light of what we hear is currently happening in NY State.
What about those trying to say, quit smoking?
Smoking? YEP, an unintended side effect of several Anti Depression medications is that it turns out they are somewhat successful in helping people quit smoking, so they are often prescribed for that purpose, not necessarily because the person is “unstable“.
There is also the very real risk that the ongoing campaign to strip firearms from those deemed unstable is that it will actually result in blow-back in the sense that many people will simply avoid seeking mental help of any kind, for fear they will be labeled, stigmatized and risk loosing their Rights.
We've seen this type of social stigmata before, in the years preceding the totalitarian take over of most of Europe by Adolf Hitler.
Most Americans are unaware that in Nazi Germany, preceding the Jewish Holocaust, the first people to lose their rights were the physically and mentally disabled. We all are certainly well aware of the horrors that followed. I am not suggesting that is the inevitable result of whats happening now in the United States, but to ignore the possibility is a fools errand.
It is long past time to make a choice. Will you stand up? Or, as so many did in Nazi Germany, look the other way while a tyrant took over and ruled with an iron fist and secret police apparatus and millions of dissenters and other so called “undesirables” disappeared in the middle of the night?
Read this poem from pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) about the sloth of German intellectuals following the Nazi's rise to power and the subsequent purging of their chosen targets, group after group.
First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.
The time is now to speak out, and the window to do so is closing rapidly!
