MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -(Ammoland.com)- Traditions Media, a specialized communications and progressive public relations team representing some of the best brands in the outdoors industry, has announced recent expansion.
Brent T. Wheat will serve the firm as a Public and Media Relations Representative in support of its growing Hunting and Tactical Communications Team.
Wheat is a full-time freelance writer, book author, photographer, videographer and publisher with 30 years in law enforcement and a lifetime of hunting and fishing experience.
Having worked his way up from “turnkey” at the local jail to a patrol Lieutenant, Wheat brings extensive knowledge in the tactical, outdoors and media world to his new mission with Traditions Media.
Traditions Media co-owner and president, Noel Vick, brought Wheat onboard after looking for someone who could blend his firm’s compelling brand of storytelling with the unique requirements of the tactical and hunting communities.
“Brent certainly appears to be one-of-a-kind, which is kind of scary when you consider how well he’s fitting in with the rest of our team around here… I’m already counting it as a win,” Vick said.
“There aren’t too many people who understand these special audiences and can weave a narrative that really resonates with them. Like the rest of us at Traditions Media, Brent’s voice comes from experience and his writing style is highly entertaining. He’s going to tell stories that people are really going to connect with.”
Wheat served in many roles during his three decades in law enforcement: SWAT sniper, investigator, evidence technician, K9 handler, department spokesperson and shift supervisor. Aside from years of experience on the street, he attended dozens of training schools while earning certifications ranging from Underwater Homicide Investigator to Hostage Negotiation.
He is highly skilled in diverse weapons systems, has held VX nerve agent in his hand, SCUBA dived under the ice, been trained in explosive breaching, laid behind a sniper rifle in countless life-or-death situations and has hitched rides beneath helicopters.
Wheat is also quite proud of the moment when he was intentionally shot in the buttocks with multiple paint rounds fired by one of our nation’s most elite special operations units.
“I can’t begin to express how excited I am to be working with Traditions and the great brands their Hunting and Tactical Communications Team represents,” Wheat said. “Traditions Media is one of the best and most unique outdoor media firms in the country, and their clients are true category champions. To work with both of them is the best Christmas gift any outdoor writer could ask for.”
Aside from his real-world experiences, Wheat has an impressive list of media credits ranging from his long-time Street Smarts column for SWAT Magazine to serving as a contributor for BearingArms.com, Law Enforcement Technology, Eastern Fly Fishing, Trailer Boating Magazine, Turkey & Turkey Hunting along with dozens of local and regional magazines and newspapers.
He had a personal segment for two seasons on SWAT Magazine Television and is a frequent media source, widely quoted on a range of firearms and outdoor topics.
When he isn’t hunting, fishing, shooting or writing about it, Brent resides in Lebanon, Indiana with his fiancée Shirley. Wheat began his official duties with Traditions Media on January 1.
