USA – -(Ammoland.com)- AmmoLand News has been forced to set our “comment spam filter” for lack of a better term, to a stupidly high setting. To fight the continued bombardment of link spam, fake accounts, and trolls that post hate speech, threats, and garbage to our pages. That high setting often catches our regular readers in the approval hell circle.

Believe me when I tell you we would rather just let comments post at will and not use up our small team’s time on approving things that have nothing to do with what the haters dump in our forum. But if we did that you know they would be screenshotting their own false flag hateful garbage and pointing fingers to blame you and us as examples of American fascists or nazis.

Simple things that trigger the holds are link URLs, images or graphics, words that in combination could potentially be part of racist or violent ‘hate speech’, threats, or threat words. Repeated posting in short time frames etc.

I apologize to our regulars on the site. If you have been caught in the holding tank before that event makes you more scrutinized by the tool and you may find that you are caught more often than others. As it is the pattern of spammers to post more than once, bomb the site and leave.

We try and approve posts many times a day with our team (just 4 guys) and we are on the site day and night, but on weekends we try and get in some family time and that can mean some delays.

Regulars may remember that in the recent past months we have tried setting the tool standards loser and we have gotten pounded by the work-from-home scams and porn links.

Other leading news websites have removed the comment sections entirely from their pages, we value the reader feedback, open forum and free speach. So we continue to maintain the comments section. Not an easy task but if we wanted easy we would be running websites about fluffy dogs or cute babies, not fighting to defend our Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

Thank you once more to everyone that supports our efforts at AmmoLand News, we very much appreciate all the comments and feedback, both good and bad. You can not hurt our feelings keep it coming.

And thank you for not giving up on the conversation.

Made an account briefly just to laugh at your article. Explains exactly why the comment section is barren on most articles. The fact you used the socially engineered term “hate speech” reveals you are weak and don’t realize you’ve been duped. You need to completely re-think what you’re doing and get help from people who understand the problem better.

Very true, they got JFK good didn’t they. Sad that the people who run this site are as hypocritical as the anti-gun nutjobs.

I have noticed that of late there is a lot less of it lately and that’s a good thing.

A “report post” option could potentially go a long way towards helping with this issue. Those of us regulars could narrow the focus on the junk posts for those dealing with all this garbage.

Grigori

Agreed. How about a “Report SPAM” button? If someone abuses this feature by reporting a comment as SPAM that they simply disagree with, the button either disappears from their options or will no longer work.

Ansel Hazen

It won’t do a thing for posts that contain actual opinion. This is strictly for the spammers posting links to scam and phishing sites.

But as I write this I have another thought. Because I suspect much of this downvoting is being done by anti-gun moonbats hiding in the background why not make the ability to upvote or downvote be based on something like 10 posts to Ammoland before you get to vote on other posts?

Grigori

Thank You!

Hard moderation is needed now days to stop the unnecessary BS from popping up.

Keep up the good work.

Or you could be like Gab and allow free speech, and manually weed out the spammers/trolls/etc. I say this because there are malicious lurkers here with multiple sockpuppets that gang up on the best comments to flip the ratio and cause those regulars to have large numbers of downvotes. Unless you’re saying you have no way of identifying who downvotes what…. Any speech that isn’t free is as much of an infringement of the 1st Amendment as gun control laws are to 2A. You know who the regular readers are by the comments section; protect their free speech while you… Read more »

Henry, looks like the downvote trolls got you. I brought it up by one. Good post.

Ansel Hazen

Me too.

Back atcha +1! I ROFL at these babies. I bet they’re commietards born to libtard parents with a Communist manifesto instead of silver spoons.

Please don’t take this wrong, but only the federal government, state governments, and extensions thereof are precluded from the prior restraint of free speech.
And votes, up or down, are speech, as well.

Henry Bowman

Private companies acting at the direct behest of public officials is still as much a violation as if the government did it directly. Guys like Ovomit and Beijing Biden don’t get to censor by proxy, and social media that acts as a publisher by curating approved content and deleting unfavored content is violating the digital commons and violates whole portions of society. Guilty is guilty, and trying to destroy honest competition because they offer a free speech alternative violates lots of other laws (like antitrust). No, they don’t get to use “private enterprise” as a magical shield for tyrannical corporate… Read more »
